In a way is HW not really a weight class?

Upon reflection, what has come to be known as the HW division is not really a weight class in the sense that other weightclasses are worthy of that particular term. The hallmark of weightclasses are restrictions, all other weightclasses have limits but this is the one attribute the HW division always has lacked. A HW boxing participants currently can and always been able to come in at 201lbs, 237lbs, 455lbs, or even 10000lbs. Like all weightclasses a participant in HW fight would not even have to weigh as much as the designated beginning of the division which is 201lbs.
Though in truth weightclasses were an adaptation in boxing in an attempt to create more fair competition. When boxing began as a sport what is currently known as the HW champion, was the champion of the boxing world period and later the weighclasses were added for obvious reasons.
So while many things changed in the sport of boxing the HW division is the one thing to me that seems to be the same. It exists in the way it always has, as its own "come as you are", combative special attraction though it used the be the only attraction in boxing long ago. Times change and I am strongly in favor of adding a weight restriction for the HW division as the UFC has in their HW class.
As big a fan I am of the Klitschko brothers it is hard for me mentally to give them full credit when they totally dominate an opponent like Byrd or like Chambers who will most likely be dominated later next year, due to at times a 30-40lb size differential. Whether a SHW division should be created, I am still on the fence about but there is absolutely too much of a weight differential in some of these HW fights. Weight limits for HWs would be a huge step in forcing more fair competition and put and end to the HW division as the special combative attraction it has become and allow it to join the rest of its counterparts as a legitimate weightclass.

It's annoying though because not all these guys even have to weigh as much as they do.

    The Klitschkos weren't always 250+

Aside from them the other just choose to be soft.

Chambers is a cruiserweight if he really got lean. Aereolla could probably be 215 is he wanted. He's only got a 77 inch reach FFS. Tyson had loads more muscle and strength than him and he was 217.

Even Lennox Lewis was 235 at the mid point of his career, then he lost to Oliver Mccall and comes it at over 240 in his next fights. Lewis was 227 when he beat Donovan Ruddock, and that wasn't even his lowest weight.

It just depends on how hard they train. Foreman was 220-224 in his prime. in his comeback he was 260, gradually got himself down to 235 against Qawi..but obviously let off and put more weight back on again.

so i think it's BS that these fat fks are weighing 250 have these ****ty reaches and no indication in frame size that makes them out to be legit 250's.

Both Byrd and Chambers should be at Cruiserweight, the reason they're at Heavyweight is for the $$. Also the avg weight of their last 10 opponents is 231, only 10 lbs less than the average Klitchko weight. And the Heavyweight division in the UFC has a limit of 265, which the Klitchko's come in far under.

Its not perfect and doesn't completely ensure fair comp but any small step is a step in the right direction in my view.....

I don't think it matters all that much at the top at the moment because I think all the premier heavy's would be able to beat the out sized heavies. Unless you're calling the Klitchko's to big. And if that's the case what upper weight limit would you suggest.

Not at the moment, because there is really no one who could compete with the K-bros who is their size in terms of skill anyway. Also it is not like there are several very skilled smaller HWs either right now. Just as a general rule weight restrictions would be good so we don't have a great 260lb fighter blasting out several great 205-215lb fighters due more to huge size advantage than anything else in the future HW scene.
