Sound familiar? Heck, the IBF even stripped him in the midst of it all, just as they're planning to do this time.
He tried pulling that trick again with Wilder III.

But Windmill just happened to have a better lawyer.

He's only had 3 defenses his whole career too. Now we can see why!

One of those defences was Dereck fûcking Chisora who never won a big fight in his life and had what, 13 losses at that point? I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for the Whyte fight, even though he was shopworn by then.

3rd Wilder fight was a pointless holding up of the belt when he’d already agreed to an undisputed fight against AJ, then ‘remembered’ he’d signed another rematch clause with Wilder when Wilders lawyers turned up. I wonder if that AJ fight would have ever even happened. At this point Fury has no legacy and has turned most of his fans against him.

Just saw an interview with Agron Smakici (the guy that sparred Usyk)
        Few things that stood out:

Fury isn't preparing for Usyk specifically in his spars. Smakici asked Sugar Hill how to spar and he told him to do whatever he wanted.

Smakici also helped Joshua in previous trainingcamps and he said seeing him now Joshua has completely changed (with Ben). Far more dangerous.
"If you make a mistake with Tyson you don't care, but if you make a mistake with AJ he will take your head off"

That's easy. It wouldn't have happened.

He was playing games. He didn't want or need to fight Wilder again (which I can kind of understand) so he was dragging that out and used Joshua to show that he 'just wants the big fights'.

I mean, this has been the story of his career. It's why I think he's overrated. Very little real challenges and question marks over basically everything. It's getting pathetic at this point.

In Fury's biography Fury says "If ever a fighter was made for me - it was Derek Chisora" This was way before than final fight. Guy was looking for an easy defence. Chisora was on the decline then too!

Fury didn't want the AJ fight, that's why he went for it then - when it couldn't happen.

This what Fury said when he sparred a beginner Joshua

“He’s rushed out at me, he threw a one-two and left-hook and I slipped. I thought, 'He’s not that good, I’m going to take my time.'

“Then bash, he gives me a big uppercut right on the point of the chin.

"If I'd have had a bit of a weak chin like David Price, I'd have been knocked out for a month.

“He’s very, very good and he's only young, 20, watch out for that name Anthony Joshua he is one prospect for the future.

“He came out at me for three rounds and he gave me a beating - I’m not going to deny it, he gave me hell for leather for three rounds.

"I thought ‘Oh my god, an amateur is killing me.’

“Being a professional, and I’ve been an amateur myself and fought all over the world, I slowed him down a bit with a few good body shots.

“The kid's only 20, and I’m a handful myself, so for him to put up a good performance like that against a top prospect in me, I think he’s one for the future.”
After than Fury turned Joshua into a "robotic bodybuilder" so he could avoid him for the rest of his career...
