  • Evander Holyfield vs Jack Dempsey

Here is another instant classic between two warriors not afraid to mix it up. If Holyfield simply sticks to his boxing and countering Dempsey, he wins a 12 round decision however that is a big IF. Would Evander be able to resist trading with such a tough aggressive fighter who was smaller than him I doubt it the Real Deal would have a point to prove and want to show off his gigantic heart.

Comparing the two fighters shows that Evander is 1.5 inches taller with 4.5 inches in reach and about 20lbs in weight this would encourage Holyfield to go to war not the best of strategies but the fans wouldn’t be complaining. Dempsey was clearly the harder hitter and faster of the two where Evander has the edge is the much better boxing skills, size and ring IQ. A real toss up of a fight that could be ended at any point if Jack lands flush and catches Holyfield off guard.

As predicted the first round is Dempsey coming out and looking for a brutal quick finish. Holyfield will be prepared and uses his skills and size to avoid the most damaging of punches and frustrate Jack. After a few rounds Evander is up on all the judges and is feeling pretty confident, he starts letting his hands go a bit too much and stays on the inside for a little too long. Dempsey sees the opportunity and really starts to turn up the heat landing some vicious punches hurting Holyfield and dropping him in round 6. With Evander’s great chin he gets up and rides out the storm.

As the Real Deal settles back into his boxing he starts to land some beautiful combinations that stun his opponent, with the Manassa Mauler now realizing he needs a knockout the championship rounds consist of him wildly chasing down Holyfield and looking to finish him off. With Evander’s superior skills he has already made the adjustments necessary to avoid the clinch and fighting on the inside making Dempsey less dangerous and unable to find the knockout.

Verdict – Decision win to Holyfield

    IMO Holyfield absolutely destroys Dempsey.

Holy doesn’t hit hard enough to destroy him but can easily outbox him if he decides to

KO is another story but I just don't think Jack's bow at the waist, rigger step, etc. routine has any answers for Holyfield. Holy is tough, fast, good at all ranges, tactical, patient, smooth, he's just a monster for Dempsey. With the size advantage, I just don't see Jack having any success.

That said, older Dempsey, yes he does KO him.

I agree but Evander has that knack of getting into wars when he didn’t have to and Jack hit hard enough to stop Holy

Would be a great fight, I'd lean towards Holyfield by late stoppage. He had multiple styles he used to win fights across his career. He might get caught, hurt by Dempsey at some point but I think Holyfield would box going forward, push him back like he did Tyson. Perhaps peak Dempsey was too ferocious for that and would force a short war. We saw Cooper with his fast powerful hooks do damage to Holyfield in that kind of fight, so Dempsey has a shot, but he left himself open more than Holyfield does, and Holyfield had a better chin.
