  • How many fights will be derailed by American social media addicts in 2024?

    Inspired by maguirre's thread here.

As much as this US dominated forum likes to deride fighters as "Eurobums" and anyone from outside the US really, it seems most of their fighters are inactive social media addicts who spend more time talking about "muh A side", "muh split" than doing any actual fighting.

The following list of American social media addicts can be counted on to derail many fights in 2024, with "muh A side", "muh split" as the likely excuse:
    • Terence Crawford.
    • Errol Spence.
    • Both Charlo twins.
    • Teofimo Lopez.
    • Ryan Garcia.
    • Gervonta Davis.
    • Shakur Stevenson.
    • Jaron Ennis.
    • Andy Ruiz.
    • Rolando Romero.
    Anyone I missed?

Yeah, its not just the diva fighters though. Managers and promoters run with the A-side nonsense, and so-called fight fans (all over Boxingscene) cannot stop prioritizing the perceived A-side status of their favorite fighters. It's been said a thousand times already, but there are more promoters and lawyers and this site than actual fight fans.

Lopez has a fight scheduled. Garcia and Stevenson just had their recent fights. So these guys are active trying to secure fights. Ryan just had his fight, yet already looking for his next fight. Stevenson is trying to get Navarette, which is a good fight.

The rest might as well retire. They just love yapping.

Don't know if Deontay is still talking...Frank Martin, Isaac Cruz...who else?
Crawford, Spence, Charlo 1 and 2, Wahid Abdul, Ennis are not expected to come back anytime soon.

Tyson Fury should be at the top of this list. And Andy Ruiz. Keith "Once Upon A Time" Thurman. Edgar Berlanga. And, despite what some think, Estrada. He's only ever fought ONE unification across all his title reigns, and that was only because Hearn managed to give him a career high payday. I'll give him a pass if he actually steps up and fights Bam, Nakatani, or Ioka.

Christian Mbilli has had opportunities to fight Morrell for a while now, but he's yapping away about Canelo while fighting bums.

Tank vs Haney - Cabbage Patch's fanboys are already saying he doesn't have to take a fight in Saudi. Haymon advises otherwise too since he needs an undefeated Davis for 2 of his Prime PPV

Hardly any of those fighters you named are American. But you're right about Ruiz.

I always remember Gary Russell Jr getting a reported $1 million dollars to fight Patrick Hyland. No disrespect to Hyland but he'd have been getting relative buttons for that fight and tbh I think most able bodied human beings under 80 would fight Hyland for a $1 million.

Gary Russell Jr has had 5 fights in 8 years since then.

Nothing against Russell because it is prizefighting.

But I never get those big pay days to fight someone who is never gonna remotely compete.

It is like paying them an inflated purse to put them on a retainer in the hope you can make a big fight. Might as well pay them an actual retainer instead. It is unsavoury when the other guy is getting paid buttons and in a dangerous fight.

The other example is one of the Charlos blasting that Argentinian guy that had beat Matthew Macklin one time but had a busted knee and could barely walk to the ring.

                    This era killed boxing
