  • How would Errol Spence fair against most ATG or top WWs?

I remember that a few years ago, I was reading some well known media accounts (youtube & twitter) mentioning:

-That he will conquer the divisions: 147-168.

-He beat most greats from welterweight (DLA, Trinidad, Napoles, Pacquiao, Mayweather, Hearn, SGR and etc). Some stating he give someone like Sugar Ray Leonard a run for his money even if he lost, with the reasoning that they were not undefeated and it is difficult to see Errol doing so.

-He would beat Canelo if he moved up 2-3 divisions, his pressure would be too much. That he be the best option for 2022-2023 (?) with three contact deal with PBC.

Now I am not saying he isn't a great fighter (he is a ATG) and just think that it sounds odd due to recency bias, he had 7 title defense fights (6-1, 4 KOs) with a record of 28-1. (75% knockout ratio). He has beaten Champs and top ranked contenders in Lamont Peterson, Kell Brook, Yodernis Ugas, Mikey & Danny Garcia, and Shawn Porter. He has above solid boxing ability and an insane output to go all twelve rounds. He doesn't have one punch knockout power but he can load on his punches and stop his opponents on their track.

I don't think Crawford defeated the best version of Errol either by the way, although I still view Crawford beating him quite decidedly if both faced each other at their prime. Errol Spence was still in shape/state where he beat most current WWs. How would he fair against most Champs at 147 from different times.

I am an OG team Spence member on Scene but I will say this.

If the WW's have more hand speed than him. They will likely beat him.

Like the great WW's, Sugar Ray Leonard? They can beat Spence most likely. Tommy Hearns would beat Spence. Guys with hand speed and can crack would probably give him an L.

Duran would give him hell. Wilfred Benitez would give him hell. He would probably beat both though but these are 50/50 fights.

I think Spence beats the rest though. He's strong has good power. That's enough to get around many of the rest of the great WW's. Whitaker might decision him but at the same time he could probably win the way Oscar did as well. So, I think post-Crawford that Spence's stock definitely took a hit but he's still one of the better WWs for history.

There is a thread on this site where people discuss him and crawford against the 70s, 80s, and 90s WWs. Take a look

He gets his ass kicked by everyone. Always been an overrated hypejob beating thurmans leftovers less impressively

Think he should do ok unless they have good fast feet, accurate, and great jab.

I always thought prime Pacquiao would be stylistic nitemare for him.

Well it is an interesting topic, at least to me it is. If I am being honest, I think recency bias is also taking affect with Crawford, because it is difficult to gauge where he stands when there isn't exactly sufficient P4P skilled opposition in the same division besides Errol.

Still though solid resume, three division champion with wins over the likes of Kell Brook, Shawn Porter and Errol Spence. Obviously he is up there, but I wouldn't know if he beat a top ATG with such certainty. He has 100% KOs at 147, is one of the smoothest switch hitters like Hagler, and doesn't have any noteworthy deficiencies. He is a tough task for anyone fighting this guy.

The guys that aren't counter punchers he'll do well with. Elite Counter punchers wreck him.

Spence is slightly above average and his performances reflect that. Comparing him to the greats is lol.

                  - - Timeline challenged are you?

Spence one of the top talents played his hand quite well until.......until he took a hyper flight along side his Ferrari that drunken night, permanently shot to shyte from then on.

See the awkward off balance performance in the Ugh fight where he lucked into the misanthropic Laurence Cole's incompetence to survive long enough to turn around that fight.
