As for this fight, Smith has reach, speed, sharpness on his side... but then he's fighting a monster in Beterbiev. Anything can happen, as we've seen a lot of recently.

You're thinking of Dmitry Pirog, also a great fighter. He retired a year or two after the Jacobs win.

There’s a reason Smith hasn’t fought at this weight before, because it’s not natural for him. After Canelo bullied him to take his World Title, it showed to everyone else in the division that even though he’s taller than the rest, he was put in his place by a man half a foot or more shorter than him. For me Smith doesn’t have that aggressive streak you need to be ruthless with your opponent. He’s too static and he has to move more to have a fighting chance against Beterbiev. As for Beterbiev, why is he fighting Smith and not unifying the division by taking on Bivol? Surely you have to push for that fight and prove you’re the best? Is he protecting his 0? As a boxing fan I want to see the best fight the best. Beterbiev v Bivol would light the green touch paper. However, it’s barely ignited any interest with Smith as opponent, even here in the UK.
