I've watched enough Muay Thai to know exactly what you mean. The Spence fight was an awkward watch as you said; pretty early on it was apparent that he didn't have it that night (or perhaps ever) and there was nothing he would be able to do to reverse the inevitable slaughter.
Was cataract really the secret reason Spence lost to Bud?

You can get em early onset and head trauma is thought to be one of the additonal risk factors. I had my first one done at age 44 back in 2017 and I'm due to have my left eye done in a month or two. I was young for it and Spence is very young for it .
It does fuck with your vison pretty significantly - or at least it's degenerative and does after a while. Funny enough I can still play table tennis where there's a high contrast between the ball and it's surroundings but I can struggle to see punches (although it's body sparring only for me these days since I got a detached retina)Comment

You know they test for things like VISION prior to the fight right? They’re not going to send a fighter out there who can’t see punches coming.
but it’s a good excuse. Better than egg weights in the glovesComment
