I still believe Wallin can beat Hrgovic.

But instead of fighting Hrgovic for vacant IBF title he decided to lose to Joshua badly and lost his position.

Wallin is not very smart man. If you want to cash out, take a vacant belt first.

Nah, a bird in the hand and all that. He couldn't be sure what was going to happen with the IBF, time frames, etc. You don't turn down an AJ payday if you're a low profile fighter like Wallin.

The money was too big to turn down.

Opetaia chose to get stripped of his IBF title to fight a nobody in Saudi. He said he couldn't turn down the dough they offered him.

So if a fighter who already has a belt was chosing to lose it because they paid him so much for a fight low down on a card, then Wallin must've made some serious cash to be in the main event vs AJ.

You never know when it's your last fight and Wallin isn't exactly one of the big money generators, so he was absolutely right to take the payday.

        1. Take the money when you can get it. Any number of things can derail potential future fights.
        2. Wallin probably thought he could beat Joshua. He didn't become a ranked contender by not believing in himself.

No, it wasn't. He already has enough fights and is not in his 20's, but early 30's. This fight made him see his level and reevaluate his training. Plus, financially it was good for him.

The IBF belt is crap and is uncertain how it will be rolled. All the belts are, but some are more than others.
