  • Comments Thread For: Gervonta Davis Now Sole Recognized WBA Lightweight Titlist; Haney Removed As 'Super' Champ

The new year has begun with one less WBA belt in existence. Devin Haney was formally removed as WBA 'Super' lightweight champion in the sanctioning body's latest ratings update which published Tuesday. Gervonta 'Tank' Davis is now the sole recognized WBA titleholder at the weight, having previously held WBA 'Regular' status.

Okay, now that Tank Wahid is a legitimate 2 division champ, can we stop pretending he's a "3 division champ"?

Its as if boxing works like a government job where you get promoted by seniority. Someone takes a promotion or retires and boom you can just take their spot whether you deserve it, or are capable of doing it.

Haney would have to kill himself to make this weight again...

Mindblowing that this is the way he becomes a '2 division champion'

                He's still a 0 division world champion.

A "world championship" is a legitimate divisional crown. The lineal, TBRB, Ring Magazine champion.
A "world title" is when you have the top belt of one of the big 4
A fake title claim is when you have a secondary or tertiary belt of one of the big 4.

This officially makes Davis a 2 division world titlist, with an additional fake title claim at 140. He's still never even fought for a real championship.

The real lightweight championship is vacant as of Haney's abdication.

That's not accurate. Davis was the IBF champ and had the WBA (super) belt at 130.

-edit- nevermind. Read more closely and you're defining it by media belts, not sanctioning organizations. Seems arbitrary, but by that standard, yes, you were accurate.
