You watch any boxing animes? A****a no Joe and Hajime no Ippo are phenominal.

I wish I had gotten into Anime/Manga when I was younger. Akira is a phenomenal film, but I was too busy caring what ppl thought in the 90's

I've read that the reason Anime/Manga seems to be so much better than western animation is typically due to the story having just one writer/animator, who does everything so it's THEIR story instead of having a number of different writers and animators all doing different episodes. So there's a lot more emotion poured into the work

Even though boxing is considered a "Western" sport, Japanese athletes still loosely carry a warrior tradition of respect towards their opponents; trash talking is considered undignified. And self-aggrandizement, even less so. Inoue clearly embodies this mindset. He's not going to be carried into the ring on a cosplay gold-speckled throne. That has nothing to do with legacy.

Watch Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. Mifune's character is the most popular, the big-hearted country bumpkin being a proxy for the audience's desire to rebel against society's expectations and class structures. But the most revered character is Kyuzo, the quiet man who just gets it done without expectation of accolades.

When Inoue retires, I highly doubt he'll tarnish his professional standing with pointless exhibition matches.

Ironic, considering that you’re a hater yourself. Does it hurt your ego that bad seeing an Asian boxing champion?
