Comments Thread For: Can 2024 Keep the Momentum Going?

By Cliff Rold - The business of boxing outside the ring in the United States remains as in flux as it has been for most of recent history. Decades of stability by way of free network coverage gave way to decades of premium cable stability with ESPN and HBO. ESPN has been in and out of boxing since it launched with more time in than out. Times have changed.

2023 was good not that great or anything. 2024 seems to have an opportunity to outdo it unless boxing decides to set itself back like it usually does

2023 was a year of exposing frauds..

      Ryan Garcia- Fraud
      Errol Spence- Fraud
      Tyson Fury- Fraud
      Canelo- Fraud
      Shakur- Fraud
      Wilder- Fraud

Boxing has this uncanny ability to build up fighters whose records far surpass their talent, and their hype far outweighs what's deserved.

Spence should not have been dominated like that against Crawford. Fury should not have struggled like that against Francis. Canelo should not be fighting 154 pound men. Shakur should not be a three division champion. And Wilder should have knocked Parker clean tf out.

We also saw the resurgence of a drug cheat (Miller).

How much dirtier can boxing be before it it no longer of any interest to anyone?

Fake, overinflated fighters, with little to no talent, making millions of dollars, while propagating false narratives and promises.

      I'm tired of it.

A lot of potential dream matches were mentioned prior to 2023 as well, and only a handful became a reality. Same case will happen next year.

People would call for Usyk vs Fury. We will be crossing fingers until the bell rings that Fury doesn't find a reason to postpone it again.
People would call for Canelo vs Benavidez. We might end up with Canelo vs Mungia or Canelo vs Jermall or Canelo vs Crawford.
People would call for Crawford vs Boots and Crawford vs Tszyu, but 2024 will probably provide Crawford vs Spence II and an outside possibility of Canelo vs Crawford that no one is really excited to see.
People will continue to dream for Shakur vs Tank. 2024 will likely provide Tank vs Cruz II and maybe a Shakur vs Loma if we are lucky.
People will want Inoue vs Nery/MJ/Goodman/Casimero. Those who wanted to see him immediately go up to 126 will be unhappy.
People will want Bam vs Estrada, and chances are we will get Bam vs Martinez and Estrada vs Ancajas or something like that.
I will ask for a Teraji unification at 108 and I will probably get two mandatory defense again.

Damn, y'all some glass-half empty, pessimistic, hard to please mofo's. This sport is far from perfect, but there were a helluva lotta good fights and spectacles in 2023. Plenty of disappointments, too, but such is life. 2024 indeed looks like it could be good year for boxing. I'm going on the positive tip.

And when one of these guys lose, they will become frauds in your book, right? So listen up y’all……. Fight your asses off, start working hard in the gym, work on your craft, but don’t even think about taking on those tough challenges. Cuz if you lose, you’re a fraud instantly. They can only be less than 10 good fighters on earth. The rest of y’all suck.
