  • Comments Thread For: Jaron Ennis Father on Son Being Elevated to Titlist: We Didn't Want It That Way; You Didn't See Us Hootin' and Hollerin'

Jaron "Boots" Ennis wanted to become champion the proper way, by actually using his fists, says his father. After being the top-rated 147-pound contender for some time, Philadelphia's Ennis became a proper titlist in November

“We talked about that, but Crawford didn’t want to fight Boots because he (Crawford) can’t make no money. But he fought [David] Avanesyan (last year) and Boots is way more known than Avanesyan."

“Someone was saying that Terence was saying that they gave him (Ennis) the title, but we wanted to fight you,” the elder Ennis continued. “We wanted to fight you and you had the nerve to say that we got the title that way. Nah, we’ve been in line.”
No lies detected. And Boots told Crawford to "come get yo belt back" and it was refused.

Avanesyan was a mandatory - but Crawford had a chance to fight a voluntary that was #1 at the time.

I'm not buying it, so then why are there quotes from Bozey Ennis that they were contacted by BLK prime to potentially make a Crawford fight, but Bozy said they weren't interested because of verbal agreements with Showtime/Espinoza. So either someone was being dishonest last time, or someone is being dishonest this time - which means there are holes in this story.

Bozy is obviously enamored with Espinoza and he has no plans of parting ways with him wherever he goes. (Which looks to me like the former Showtime exec. would possibly be in the PBC team.)

Having said that why did Team Ennis not make any offer to Bud Crawford with the backing of Showtime/Espinoza when Boots was the #1 WBO mandatory? Showtime is a premiere network and BLK is virtually a nobody in the business. It doesn't make any sense. Boots also dropped his WBO mandatory spot for no reason than to avoid Crawford. BLK made the offer and they turned it down saying they're tied with Showtime.

Also, Avanesyan's promoter is Frank Warren, who had zero involvement in the Crawford fight. Which means Frank just let it play out with no percentage cut. That's what Warren does to his fighters. He even offered Hearn not to worry about paying Avanesyan when UK fans were clamoring for the Benn fight. Frank stated he would take care of Avanesyan's paycheck. In other words, Avanesyan didn't say he can't take the Crawford fight because he's tied with Warren or any silly excuses like that.

Nobody listening to anything the email Ennis camp gotta say. Just stfu and fight somebody, and that means somebody in the top 10, now that you've been gifted a belt

I don't care what the circumstances, a fighter should never accept any phony belt for any reason. It's disrespectful to the sport and it's demeaning to the fighter, even if they don't realize it.

Showtime was not a promoter. It's the promoter who brings the money.
