Former champion Jose Luis Castillo (60-9-2, 52 KOs) has accepted the invitation to become a sparring partner for Manny Pacquiao. He left on Wednesday to head out to Pacquiao's camp in Baguio City, Philippines. He will join other sparring partners Urbano Antillon and Shawn Porter in camp to help Pacquiao prepare for the November 14 bout with WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto. Castillo, 35, returns to the ring on November 28 in Mexico. He plans to fight at 143 and then look for a title shot at junior welterweight in 2010. [details]

First advice from Jose L Castillo....dont make the weight. lol. just kiddin. Maybe a good thing for manny in the way of preparing for body punches and what not...but he's much, much slower than Cotto, and that could be misleading. It's a toss up. Maybe some good will come out of it, but I don't really see it as an advantage for Manny.Comment

He may be shot but this is sparring. With the skill and experience he have, he should be able to make pac work. In the end, that is all that matters.Comment

Well, I think the only reason why Roach has him sticking around is because Pacquiao siding with Koncz. (****** Koncz assigned Castillo. They're should be no ****ing reason why an ADVISER has the right to pick sparring partners). But since Castillo is there, his experience will be the only benefit to Pacquiao.Comment

I think the real reason he has castillo around is because castillo has experience at being in the ring against Floyd. Except Floyd has improved much more defensively after he had the castillo fights.Comment
