Preamble:
Alright lads, it seems like we've plenty enough new fans and of course I am here to educate them. I've done all of this stuff in exhaustive detail and depth prior so if you want to know more search the forum or ask me some ****s.
The Beginning:
Historical account - Boxing began some 10k years ago in the area we call Sparta now as a military training.
Mythological account - Apollo invented boxing to beat up Aris with.
Boxing is not gladiator ****. Gladiators did not box and were not boxers.
Boxing has **** all nothing to do with sumer, egypt, nubia, or any other pre-greeco society that might have had punching in some kind of event. Boxing is a sport with ideals and training that roots to Greece and no where or when else.
The Death:
Boxing was a pagan ritual in honor of Apollo so when Rome Christianized and got rid of all the old pagan rituals boxing went with it in 393.
The Resurrection:
In the 1640s to combat puritanism in the lower classes the upper class of England took interest in bringing back old pagan rituals to highlight positive aspects of pagan culture, boxing was one.
By the 1720 boxing would replace dueling as the main form of prize fighting and betting.
Globalization:
The 1830s saw America open up to English boxing, by the 1850s America was competing with England under a share set of rules, and by 1870 the first world champion was crowned.
Modernization:
Because champions of the past were constantly avoiding top fighters, taking long vacations from boxing without giving up their title, and generally cheating all the time, the idea of the sanctioning body was invented.
1890 starts the NSC
1910 comes the IBU
1920 the NYSAC
1921 the NBA
1962 the NBA becomes the WBA
1963 the NSC, IBU, and NYSAC form the WBC
1983 the WBA splinters into the WBA and IBF
1988 the WBA splinters into the WBA and WBO
That's it, done quickly.
