Why would ARUM turn away PACQUIAO's (and his) biggest payday?

I found the article today curious.

We are all businessmen on some level. If we had a huge business opportunity or prospective client, would we send that client to our competition before we attempted to see if we can service that client? Imagine that you own a delicatessen. Someone comes to you and wants to order 1000 sandwiches for a street fair next Sunday. You know that is difficult for you. Tough order. Do you send that potential client to Subway?... or do you try to run some numbers and talk to your suppliers and see if you can get the counter guys to work overtime? That ONE order can make your whole month...right?

GBP is a competitor to Top Rank. While the rift has cooled, there remains some venom. When Arum says 'mayweather should go fight mosley', he is essentially sending a huge bag of money to his competition. Now, Arum didn't get to be wealthy or have the longevity (he's 78) in the boxing game from being ****** or weak.

What does Arum gain from turning down a Mayweather fight before negotiations have even begun?

At first blush, you can say "negotiation leverage". Well, either Pacquiao or Cotto will lose. If Pac loses, that doesn't hurt him much with his fanbase. Miguel would suffer more with his fans. But a Floyd-Pac fight would be untenable with Manny coming off a loss. And a Miguel-Floyd fight is much smaller for all parties involved that Floyd-Pac would be.

If Miguel loses, he has no mega-buck fights. If Pac loses, he can still get fights, but neither Floyd nor Shane can fight Manny coming off a loss.

If Pac wins, the world, universe, and galaxy is asking for a Floyd-pac fight. Not Pac-Shane.

I built a decision tree for this. I'm a nerd like that. Arum's is not operating from a position of strength.

Pride. He'd be giving in to Mayweather, and his ego makes that not sit well with him.

It goes both ways, it's the same reason Mayweather won't agree to 50/50.

However, cause Mayweather/Marquez was such a huge success, Mayweather holds the leverage right now.

Arum will pay the diff just like he did with the Hatton/Pac fight 50/52.

If Arum' s deal with pac is to take a 27% cut, then Bob can put an addendum on the contract that he will take a lower cut just to get the fight done. And pac can take home a bit more.

As long as Floyd gets his 55-60%, it is no business of FMJ's how Pac and Arum split up the 40%. PBF needs to set aside any pride/ego for the benefit of negotiations.
