  • Comments Thread For: Prograis: [Haney Fight] Not Gonna Be A Clinch-Fest; Definitely Gonna Talk To Referee About That

Regis Prograis implored one of the most experienced, effective referees in boxing to limit Devin Haney's clinching Saturday night. Prograis expects Haney to try to tie him up repeatedly during their 12-round fight for Prograis' WBC super lightweight title at Chase Center. The hard-hitting Prograis plans to do his part to work out of clinches, but he believes Haney will attempt to hold him incessantly once the former undisputed lightweight champion feels Prograis' power during Haney's first fight as a full-fledged junior welterweight.

Haven't seen any ref implementing no-clinching rules in this sport.

Prograis seems mentally defeated before he steps in the ring.

Devin is feather-fisted and all he can do is Jab, Clinch excessively, and run.

Haney fighting a heavy puncher is almost guaranteed a clinch fesf.

I’m calling the upset on this one. I think Prograis is too strong for Devin and even he catches him, it’s game over

Yes! Although clinching is legal, it often robs one fighter the ability to achieve his goals and ALWAYS robs us of an exciting fight. I want to see some exchanges!!!!

its not legal at all. its actually rule 2 of the rules

~ THE MARQUESS OF QUEENSBERRY RULES ~
                  1. To be a fair stand-up boxing match in a twenty-four foot ring or as near that size as practicable.
                  2. No wrestling or hugging allowed.
every once in a while you will run into a ref that actually enforces the rules but most of the time they pretend like they dont know them to benefit the a-side fighter

Refs in boxing rarely implements the rules, if at all.

Though I saw one the other day. It's a European card and this guy keeps running around the ring without even potshotting, which usually accompanies such style. The other guy who is chasing can't throw any because the opponent is unreachable, so nothing happens in one full minute. Then the ref stops the fight momentarily and tells them to make a fight. It gave me a chuckle because I rarely see it in a boxing match. I see it often in MMA fights.
