This guy embarrassed himself. He previously would always say that the ratings on Showtime which were declining were irrelevant. I had always knew as did a few others that Showtime were going to cancel them as the ratings absolutely ****** for boxing. He looks silly now

The fighters made millions. PBC is responsible for and to them. Showtime, DAZN, ESPN, etc have to handle their side of the business. PBC can't do that for them. Showtime cut ALL SPORTS. They have their reasons, your speculation notwithstanding.

Underwhelm? Everything continued, grew, or evolved successfully right up until now. And football and boxing were never close to being the same days. Fox wasn't looking to feature the two in a package. It's a "possibility" at Prime. But don't let that stop you looking for shade to throw.

Whoever is calling the shots at Amazon is a complete idiot. Pay for the best fights that fans want and these blood sucking promoters will fall in line. Give an exclusive deal to anyone and you’ll be following the same blueprint that led to HBO and Showtime’s demise. ESPN with their Top Rank exclusive deal is absolute crap, You have to wonder, who are the idiots making decisions at Amazon?

I tend to agree.

Giving promoters exclusive deals just enables them to put on showcase fights with matchups that aren’t 50/50 and you already know who is going to win going in.

I would have loved to see Amazon Prime use their platform to only pay for good, high quality fights. Regardless of promoter. Sort of like what the Saudi’s are doing with the December card.

What fights on either network would’ve elevated the sport back to where it was? Please be specific.

PBC started off with too many shows on too many networks. With poor production. There was no regularity to the fight cards and no one knew when or where to tune in like they did with HBO on Saturday nights. Added to that was them just mixing and matching random fights with no proper buildup or storytelling to a big fight.

A specific example was them having all the main welterweights except one and never really taking full advantage of that.

If they do the same thing on Amazon Prime it’s just going to be another mediocre run.

You didn’t name any fights specifically. Come on dude, support your argument with something concrete.

What evidence do you have the ww fights would have produced ratings?

Below, Ring in 2019 discussed the strong ratings boxing was getting on Fox. This was without the fights you allude to, pre pandemic.

I hope the Showtime team, "Custer, Bernstein, Mauro Ranallo, Mares, etc." makes the move to Amazon too! Won't be the same without Al Bernstein! Give Max Kellerman a job too!
