  • Comments Thread For: Devin Haney: People Love To Hate Me; I Embrace It Now Because What Can I Do? I'm Me

Devin Haney wasn't the least bit surprised by all of the social media backlash directed at him after he beat Vasiliy Lomachenko. Haney has grown accustomed to such harsh criticism in recent years, so much that he thrives off of it.

People don't hate him. Some just think he lost to Loma, that he hugs too much on fights, and that he is feather-fisted. He has been hugging less, but he is still feather-fisted.

I think he's great. People shouting at him on social media probably have mental health problems and are definitely unhappy with their lives. People love "undisputed" and he went to foreign territory to achieve it. We might see some more pop in his shots at 140 and 147, I'm looking forward to seeing how he does.

Only racists hate you Devin. You’ve chased greatness and acquired it at such a young age. You beat loma at 23. The same racists that said Floyd cherry-picked canelo, didn’t scream loma cherry-picked YOU. Both you and canelo were 23 against Floyd/loma.

When there’s a double standard just look at the skin tone. If you start to see a pattern against people with brown skin then you know it’s the usual racism in the sport.

Devin barely talks trash. He’s extremely humble and most trash talk is him defending himself from actual trash talk. We’ve seen canelo get disrespectful and trash talk a bunch of people. We’ve seen teo and Ryan do it all the time. Yet people are commenting that Devin talks too much trash?! Prejudice never hides.

Out of all the young dudes Devin was the only one being to fight em all. Devin was the only one accepting absolutely horrible offers because it was the only way to get the other guy to fight him. Devin took all the risks and came out on top.

Didn’t manny Pacquiao literally fight an Australian school teacher? A school teacher. A part time boxer. Where was the hatred for that? Are racists saying that Horn would’ve beaten canelo? Because they called Floyd a cherrypicker for fighting canelo. Yet gave Manny a pass with the schoolteacher.

Devin jumped up to 140 and without a tune up is fighting the most dangerous AND MOST PROVEN dude in the division. Regis is a 2x champion knockout artist in the division. Teo has one good win at the division. Regis is more proven at 140 than Teo. He’s been there longer, been a champion longer, and fought higher quality of opposition. Devin is copying Floyd by jumping up and fighting the top guy with no tune up. Manny took tuneups. Canelo took tuneups. Oscar took tuneups. Floyd immediately went after the #1 guy and now Devin is doing it.

Real boxing fans appreciate it. Do I think he retires undefeated? No. He’s taking so many risks and isn’t a hard puncher. But I also don’t think any of these young guys retire undefeated except maybe Shakur or Tank. That’s it. Just those two. Vargas boys get whooped. Regis already took an L. Teo took a L to someone Devin dominated effortlessly. (Just because Ik yall were going to argue teo beat taylor who beat Regis) (Well keep that same energy.)

Ryan is journeyman level and needs a few more fights against journeymen before stepping up to contenders. But he runs his mouth more than a boarding school of teenage girls. So people want to see him step up and get whooped again. Realistically he should only be fighting journeymen like Duarte. Although he needs to stop cherry-picking the smallest guys he can find and bringing them up 10lbs.

teo will hold his belt hostage. He’s not going to fight matias or Gary Russell. Devin and Regis are tied up. I’d like to see a rematch against Martin because that was a robbery. But teo is cut from canelo cloth NOT Floyd’s cloth. Floyd immediately rematched those controversial “close” fights. Immediately. Ran it back and dominated them even more the second time. Canelo nor teo are built like that.

Not when it comes to opponent selection, which is all that should matter to a supposed boxing fan.

He hasn't had a prime elite opponent. Loma is a natural 130 pounder, 35 years old and to many he lost to Loma. I'll give him credit for choosing Regis, but lets come back after Saturday and see where he is really at.

Calling out everyone at 135, becoming the youngest undisputed champion in the 4 belt era. Fighting arguably the best or 2nd best 140 pounder in his first fight at the weight? Bad attitude where? You like guys that duck and create excuses?

                    AND defending as undisputed.
AND vacating to free up the division.
