If a Fighter is not exciting, how far can he go?

Winky was an Extremely boring fighter early in his career. Later on, he changed up his style and started being more offense minded. THEN his fights got interesting/ entertaining.Comment

John Ruiz had a very boring style and we have no idea if he had a personality but he garnered a fair amount of fame for his time.Comment

It's a different day n age. Rigo was "boring" to ppl but that was before the social media/overpaid boxers Era. Rigo would probably not even have gotten a Donaire fight if was a demand for it in 2023. Shakur will never reach Tank or even Devin Haneys level or anywhere close if he keeps fighting the way he just foughtComment

Was going to say the same thing. Also throw Rigo in there.
If they keep winning they will eventually get a fight with a more popular name who is the draw and then they get a cut of that larger purse, that is how all those guys made their money.
Winky after he got that close close loss to Vargas, was banished from HBO for years back to fighting on ESPN and he was very lucky Mosley gave him a fight, Mosley could have easily avoided him and that would have cost Winky millions of dollars because after beating Mosley that gave him a ton of opportunities again.Comment

If a fighter is boring and has a negative fight style but he wins titles, unifies, goes up divisions and still wins, he'll make HOF but he won't be a Star.Comment

That doesn't count. If you're Heavyweight Champion of the Woerld it doesn't matter. That's the major perk of being HW, you can be ugly, fat, boring, bad talker, you name it. People will know you. (less so now that boxing is on life support, but you get the idea)Comment

Just keep winning and scoring huge upsets work. Hopkins and Stinky Wright comes to mind.
I absolutely hated watching Winky Wright on Roy Jones undercards but he was a winner. Most boring fighter ive ever seen though.Comment

Mikey Garcia was very robotic just going through the motions in fights kinda uninspiring to watch also normal polite family man and he did pretty well for himself.Comment

Depends on the fan base. If you’re Mexican even if you’re a world champion, if you’re boring, you get no respect. Look at what happened to Miguel Vasquez. Guy was a champion and he often traveled overseas to get more money for his fights because Mexicans didn’t really want to see him here in the US.
Many youngsters here may have forgotten how Juan Manuel Marquez had to change his style and become way more offensive to get respect from fans here. In his prime he had to travel to Indonesia.
What other Mexican HOF traveled in his prime outside Mexico or the US?Last edited by JJRod; 11-29-2023, 10:55 PM.Comment
