Is a ****ing catchweight????

The last I checked there was no such weight. All I see is guys fighting within the limit of a weight class but occasionally being a few pounds under. That's still within a weight class kids.

For example, Welterweight is a weight division determined by fighters that weigh greater than 140 lbs (even an ounce counts) and exactly 147 lbs. So if you fall within that category no matter how the media or fans spin it, it's not a catchweight but a ww fight.

What is a catchweight I'd love to hear some explainations of this mysterious division.

a catchweight is the weight limit as agreed upon in the fight contract by 2 boxer in 2 different weight diviisions as negotiated by their 2 teams.

a catchweight of 144 lbs, is stilll a WW fight if you interpret WW as anything between 147-141 lbs like a normal human being would. but a welterweight fight isn't necessarily a catchweight fight.

i always got the impression that a catchweight was either 1 fighter going up to a different weight class and another one coming down and they meet or "catch" eachother at a certain weight, but i have also seen 2fighters on the same path to a certain weight division and they end up fighting eachother on the way there..i could be wrong but its just what ive gathered by myself ...just my 2 cents

it's not a weight class, it's an agreed upon weight for a particular fight.

like the pac - cotto fight, both fighters has to come in at 145 or under. that's the catchweight.

why can't we call it a catchweight within the welterweight division? being allowed to weigh in at 147 and being allowed to weigh in at maximum 145 can't be labeled the same, isn't that obvious?
