Comments Thread For: Shields: When They Offered The [Morrell] Fight To Benavidez, They Said No, Nobody Knows Him

LAS VEGAS - The trainer of David Morrell Jr. signed off on his fighter facing David Benavidez on Saturday night if Benavidez would've wanted to oppose a southpaw that Ronnie Shields considers even better than Demetrius Andrade.

I agree with Ronnie Shields that it's a fight that's going to happen eventually. I just hope that we don't have to wait years and years. I couldn't care less about the he said/ she said bull of who wanted what ,when ,and who turned down or didn't turn down anything whenever , however , or whoever. I just want to see the fight because I see it as a 50/50 fight between two very exciting and highly skilled competitors. This fight would be a win for the fans and the sport of boxing.

Who would want to fight Morrell? The guy is a phenomenal talent and the risk/ reward is not good for potential opponents.

I think him and Canelo would be great fight, as can't underestimate Canelo's experience in big fights.

Real problem with these fights is, the sport is a shell of what it once was. There isn't a huge fanbase, the networks are dropping the sport, the money isn't what it used to be.

So now guys like Morrell, who is a damn good fighter, is going to have to fight as much as he can against anyone who will get into the ring with him for whatever money, and he has to build a fanbase and make the fanbase that is left salivate to see him against Benavidez or Canelo.

Just like Boots. Both guys obviously talented, big punchers. Neither guy fought anyone near champ level and neither guy has stayed active enough. These guys want to fight once in a while and then whine that no one knows them. Skill level against B level guys doesn't get a fight a made, fans and money do.

Say what you want about Jared Anderson. Guy is fighting three times a year and building his name in a real way. These whiny "Im the most talented guys" need to take note.

It's an open secret that Benavidez wants no part of Morrell.
That "losing interim" excuse is pure BS, considering Haymon owns WBC and WBA.

Let's see if Benavidez will live up to his word and fight Morrell IF he defeats Andrade and Canelo continues to duck.

I think Morrell stops him. Benavidez, as good as he is, gets tagged often. And the problem with facing Morrell would be his punches are putting guys into comas.

When Benavidez came calling the first time Ronnie Shields said no.

Fast toward to this weekend and Benavidez is fighting Demetrius Andrade while Morrell is fighting…Sena Agbeko.

                That says it all.

Didn't you read the article? How many times do you need to read the same thing to understand why they didn't fight last year?
