  • Comments Thread For: Navarrete On Sharing Card With Shakur Stevenson: I Plan To Use Opportunity To Put On Great Performance

Emanuel Navarrete is not trying to read too much into the placement for his next fight. The three-division and reigning WBO junior lightweight titlist will appear in the co-feature slot of a November 16 ESPN show headlined by the Shakur Stevenson-Edwin De Los Santos vacant WBC lightweight title fight. Navarrete will attempt

    Hopefully Shakur ve Navarette next.
Shakur is the favorite, pretty much vs anyone, but I love to watch this fight.

I don't know, but Navarrete looks soft at 130lbs. He has love handles. I think a fight at 135lbs between him and one of the best, if not the best fighters in the world would not be too pretty for Navarrete.

I could see Navarrete stealing the show from Shakur. I personally enjoy his style as a fan of the sweet science, but it's not exactly exciting.

You didn't find Shakur vs Yoshino exciting? Shakur was throwing bombs the entire fight, dropped him twice & stopped him.

Plus, this is a new era - if Navarette has a war with Robson (7/1) and it's a close fight it definitely wouldn't be considered stealing the show, might be more entertaining but that's it.

I like all of Shakur's fights, but I think it's disingenuous to pretend that Navarrete's style isn't more exciting on balance.

It’s more exciting because he lacks the defensive defiencies. But that’s just me.. I’d rather watch a guy like Shakur over Nava or a guy like Sweet Pea over Oscar if I had to choose.
Action doesn’t always = excitement. But that’s just my preference

I hear you. I actually enjoyed watching Rigo clown Casimero, even if he lost the fight. But defense doesn't mean much without offense, and Shakur lacks the creative offense that Navarrete has.

I think part of it is Shakur doesn't have fight altering one punch power, and his style is predicated on standing right in front of his opponents and hitting them and not being hit. That, in turn, means he's not really hitting them with punches they don't see coming, which reduces the likelihood of him getting stoppages.
