  • Comments Thread For: Warren: Anyone Who Knows How To Score a Fight Knows Fury Beat Ngannou

Frank Warren, co-promoter for WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, is not paying attention to the sector of fans who are criticizing the recent performance by his fighter. Last month in Saudi Arabia, Fury struggled to win a close ten round split decision win over MMA veteran Francis Ngannou.

Maybe, but doesn’t change that this is embarrassing as hell running cover like this in the aftermath.

If you fell into a coma just after this fight was announced, and woke up just in time for this headline, you’d be “wondering what tf happened”?

There were two fights going on there...a technical boxing match, and a match of the hearts and minds/glory/reputation. Fury edged the first one but definitely lost the second one.

The loss in glory was made worse given his out-of-the-ring behavior for the last year where he had been rather ****y and started losing fans anyway. Personally, I agree with Warren that they did try to make the fight and did not shy away from either Joshua, Usyk or even Ruiz but even Frank's best attempt to build up his fighter was ruined by Fury's behavior. For Fury to regain some of his lost reputation, he needs to be much quieter, less ****y, and better prepared for the Usyk fight(s). After that, he may choose to rematch Ngannou or fight a top guy such as AJ or Zhang or Ruiz and he would be pretty much done.

"All this idiocy has come from mostly the same people who were saying before the fight that it was a farce, a sham, a circus for the world heavyweight champion to be taking a crossover fight with Ngannou which he would win so easily it would be over whenever he wanted."

It WAS a farce and a circus. The only difference vs the expectation was that the Tipsy King failed to beat a guy with a 0-0 record in boxing. It was another paper thin win for Fury and a clear sign that he needs to duck all serious contenders. Waiting for the excuses why Usyk is the one who lost interest in being an undisputed championship fight after Fury had a terrible performer against a novice.

Anyone who has seen Francis fight KNEW his power and chin are special. Not a chin like Joyce, which was great, but Francis is a true juggernaut. Not power like AJ, but real bone rattling power. I can't think of any recent fighter with power and a chin as good as Francis. Add his undeniable grit and determination and you have a man that even the top HWs can't easily handle. Underestimate him and you're in trouble. No surprise here.
