Comments Thread For: Golden Boy Prez Says William Zepeda Wants Shakur Stevenson: 'He Sees Something We Don't'

William Zepeda is raring to get in the ring with Shakur Stevenson, according to Golden Boy President Eric Gomez. Zepeda, the hell-bent for leather lightweight contender from Mexico, is coming off a resounding beatdown of Mercito Gesta, in September, at Commerce Casino in Commerce, Calif.

"He sees something WE don't!" So as we see, Oscar is the one who is afraid, not Zepeda! He calls out promoters for not working together, but he keeps Zepeda away from Shakur?

He sees Shakur is feather fisted. Make it happen next. Zepeda has no better option than Shakur. Once you are on top of the Throne everyone will want your spot.

All promoters would love cross-promotion if it suited them. It’s his job to keep Zepeda away until he’s more of a name.

It’s the matchmaker who doesn’t want Shakur, based on this. There was an interesting Tweet by the ex-GBP matchmaker lamenting the new matchmaking. Tbf if you look at the last few GBP cards, undefeated fighters have lost their ‘0’ quite frequently …

Odd thing for Gomez to admit. Sounds like everybody at Golden Boy is telling Zepeda he'll lose. I think it's a good style matchup for fans, but one that seems to heavily favor Shakur. Camaron has an unbelievable engine and can wear down most guys with relentless pressure and volume punching, but I wonder if his style is just tailor-made to be a showcase fight for Shakur. Hope not. I love to see old school pressure fighters break down stylists, and seeing a reserved guy like Zepeda beat an obnoxious braggart like Shakur (or even make him cry again) would just be extra satisfying. As for those who would compare Shakur favorably to Floyd Mayweather at this stage of his career...based on what precisely??

If shakur isn’t on his sh.it, Zepeda will beat him. That brawler high volume with a great chin is the best boxing type to train to be and the worst to face

Boxing will be illegal before there's another 15 round fight.

There are 6 undefeated fighters and three others with five losses between them in the Ring top 10 + C. There are Navarrete and Foster at 130. That's dozens of possible matchups among top rated fighters. How many will we see?

great fight - S.S should grab it as it should pay well an if he wins he's that much closer to being a star (not quite there yet)
