  • Comments Thread For: James Toney-Razor Ruddock: Party Like It's 1991

By Cliff Rold - Thirty-two years is a long time. For Hall of Fame three-division titlist James Toney and once feared heavyweight contender Donovan "Razor" Ruddock, thirty-two years (and change) is how long it's been since both had their breakthrough star-making moments in boxing. For Toney, those moments were achieved in victory; for Ruddock, in gritty losses.

makes you realise how OFTEN they fought - fought in early May then back out in June - and in serious fights, not prospects padding records

Toney should be nowhere near a boxing ring. He’s completely punch drunk. He needs saving from himself.

" long established tradition " man these guys can try to tell a lie while speaking about a subject that is long gone. What happened with the few examples of "exhabition fights " is a long gone era and it holds no truth to these two guys getting in the ring at this time. The market is filled with so called fights where these guys are doing nothing to shine a light on the good sport of the fight game, to make a few bucks and more then just a few bucks on an example of boxing and what it represents. Writer is trying to hype and hawk a PPV event on a what he calls a slow weekend of boxing. Boxing is slow most weekends anymore it is the hype masters that try to cap on blurred memories of older fighters and use examples that do not hold up anymore. Screw you buddy boy sell it to someone else on another corner..................Boxing is slow bc of just this kinda thing that goes on all the time in the fight game. Clowns like Tyson idiots like these "celebrity type " fools making money off of boxing with no real connection or concern for the fight game. Stick it Rod...... A crook a crock and a crime by Cliff .....

A match that nobody asked for. Toney has to be like 300 pounds in his 5'10 frame.

TVKO was the producer of a lot of cheap ppv boxing cards. There were a few gems in there.

Disgusting that any commission, doctors, promoters, trainers, friends etc would allow Toney in a boxing ring.

I might be interested in Toney vs. Donald Trump, but not this. Toney is an all time great, one of the very best to come along since I started following boxing in the 1950s. My guess: as he did during his long career (spanning 100+ pounds in weight), he just loves to fight.

James sounded close to Terry Norris, who is a really sad case.
