Tension in Hearn and Joshua's relationship?

Of course Hearn is too diplomatic when it comes to his main asset to outright say so, but with all his recent talk of "run out" fights being a waste of time and money I wonder if the delay in announcing Joshua's next fight is due to differing priorities. It seems Joshua would quite like a "run out" whilst he positions for a big fight but is this viable for Matchroom?

Do you think Matchroom lost money on Joshua in 2023? It would certainly explain Hearn's sudden interest in an Ngannou fight which would almost certainly be profitable.

    Slow Eddie = Promoter
He don’t give two fughs about his fighter but only what he brings to the till at the end of the night
Neither does the Bobfather or Haymon ( I’ll be eating chit for this one , those crazy so-called boxing / PBC fans will try to get me , sayin* look what Al has done for his fighters , I call it babysitting but wtv )
By the way , Slow Eddie ain’t losing a penny with AJ no matter who he fights ,the Brits still think AJ is the best thing since sliced bread and 5hey buy and fill up those stadiums no matter who he fights

I'm not sure that's true now. Didn't his last two events struggle with ticket sales?

They probably did but still much more than the average boxer does
Boxing on a good night has 6/7000 and that’s considered good
AJ on decline probably gets 15/20000 in an arena even lowering the prices

i had that inkling about about AJ and Hearn too. He shouldn't really be calling for the Ngannou fight without discussing with AJ first. Almost as if he's trying to create public demand for the fight so AJ feels obligated to capitulate and fight him. But AJ had sights set on Wilder and in the past saw MMA crossover fights as gimmicky. Ngannou vs any of the top 10 is intriguing at this moment in time. So maybe Hearn just sees it as a good opportunity for a big fight in this particular time window. If Ngannou gets beat by someone else, then AJ vs Ngannou might make no sense anymore. Big fight now, big money, but it might just be a short window of opportunity to grab it.

I reckon they definitely lost money on Franklin and Helenius. A lot of tickets were unsold, there was little buzz about either fight amongst the casuals.

Matchroom need AJ a lot more than AJ needs Matchroom though. They don’t have many stars whatsoever atm, especially in the UK.

Problem is though, AJ gets a hell of a lot more than the average boxer does. DAZN essentially outbid Sky to retain his services too, so he’s surely on a very lucrative contract.

I think they were prepared to lose on the Franklin fight because they felt they could recoup on the Whyte rematch, that obviously went to sh** after Whyte popped.

I get what your saying but I’m pretty sure they still don’t lose money with him

I doubt it. I've oddly heard AJ say Eddie is among his best friends fairly recently. Seems wild to me, but AJ feels how he feels & I've seen nothing to suggest anything has changed much. I suspect with the Saudi's throwing around money like a guy who just won the lottery at the strip club they are shopping for the best money fight.

The strip club analogy is a funny yet accurate way to describe the situation. The promoters are the pimps whoring out their fighters for that sweet Saudi money. I'd prefer AJ/Zhang, but Hearn will try to talk him into an Ngannou fight. It's ultimately up to AJ to not allow it. The problem is that the $$$ is much too big to walk away from.
