So why didn't he fight at 160 then?

      Real talk.
He wasn't hurt; he was tired...that happens when you up the pressure on an Old Man.

Anyway, some crazy posts on here but bottom line...Calzaghe is a Very Good Fighter. It just would have been better for all 3, Roy, Joe, and Bernard to have fought years ago when they were in their prime or closer to it. Hopkins could have moved up for Joe and Joe could have moved up for Roy. But, that is boxing politics.

He also went to the wrong corner 4 times. Calzaghe's power stays with you.

            HE WAS TIRED...that's what happens.

Same happens to me sometimes when I'm trying to find my car after an intense cardio workout. You feel delirious because of oxygen depletion.
And with boxers, maybe sometimes they can be caught up in the fight that last thing they are thinking about is going back to the corner. With Calzaghe, who ups the pace on you, it may force the brain to think faster so it may cause some confusion...especially for Grandpa Hopkins.

Calzaghe is a volume puncher, not a Power puncher. And yes, volume punching can hurt. And yes, even average punchers can hurt people. Not saying Joe has an average punch, but he isn't what you would call a power puncher.

Then how do you explain the slurred speech, retirement talk, and month after month of inactivity. Calzaghe hurt Hopkins badly why can't you realize that?

TIRED. You can actually slur your speech when you are TIRED...plus he is from Philly...maybe you can't udnerstand his speech pattern.
He also didn't slur like Meldrick Taylor...far from it. I wouldn't even count it anywhere near that. INterview below. Retirement: HOPKINS IS OLD....OLD....OLD. He may not have wanted to go through that intensity again because his OLD aged body can't handle it. Same happened to Lennox Lewis when he realized "I'm to old for this ****" when he fought Vitali.

Then again, unlike Lewis, Bernard did want the Rematch which Joe declined.

I guess Calzaghe kept his power right up to retirement
