Boo Boo must be beaming with pride to hear another fight say he's a big name fighter.

28 years old with 25 fights is up and coming? LOL. You people out there crying and hollering Canelo is avoiding everyone, but mention Morrell fighting someone with pulse like M'bili and the excuses come rolling in.Comment

The bottom line is that he's got to fight, and I'm talking about 3-4 times a year, because he's not going to get Benavidez, or Canelo interested in fighting him.

This is spot on. Morrell Jr is going to have to just keep fighting anybody he can and level them like GGG did. He'll get his chance eventually, but no fight manager worth his salt is going to let their guy near Morrell unless its for life changing money, and Morrell doesn't offer that right now.Comment

Make this fight happen, it would definitely help the winner scale the ratings ladder to a higher position in the 168 pound division.
SteveM earned the honorary promoters hat with this suggestion to have Morrell fight Mbilli, because it would be a hell of a fight!Last edited by Boricua181; 10-19-2023, 10:40 AM.Comment

I don't love the whole "he's only got blah blah fights" argument. All that really says is that his promoter sucks at getting him good fights and building his hype (eg, doing what they're being paid to do).
Inoue had his first title after 6 fights. Loma in 3, and was two division in 12. Saensak Muangsarin won his first in 3. Oscar Collazo in 7. Kazuto Ioka in 7. Leon Spinks was unified in the heavyweight division (vs Ali) in 8.
I'm not necessarily trying to say that Morrell Jr is on that level because his promoter hasn't managed to get him many meaningful fights. I do think if there weren't an undisputed champion creating a log jam at the top he'd have a legit world title already though.
Having a good amateur pedigree often helps fast track you to titles and big fights, and having tons more fights doesn't guarantee anything about your performance at the top levels. Take a look at Munguía. Or Edgar Berlanga. He's got more fights than Morrell, but would any of you favor Munguía OR Berlanga over Morrell, because they have more fights?Comment

He's mentoring him to go in another direction so Benavidez doesn't get exposed for the fraud he is!Comment

At this point of David's career they want to bring in the bigger paydays. Morrell really passes the eyeball test but is not popular and if David beats him they will say that the dude didn't have even 10 fights.
The winner of Benavidez/Andrade should be next for Canelo and the loser can fight Morrell. Any combination of these four fighters will be interesting.Comment
