  • Comments Thread For: Showtime's Exit From Boxing Marks The End of an Era

By Cliff Rold - There was a time when boxing fans stood in line, buying a ticket to their local movie theater rich with the latest silent fare, to see just a bit of a major fight that had happened sometimes weeks before... ...a time when fans leaned their ear toward the family radio to hear Don Dunphy describe the live exploits of Joe Louis and Henry Armstrong...

Everyone is leaving out that SHOWTIME PPV isn’t going anywhere. This just refers to ShoBox or other side projects of Showtime Boxing, which is still bad.

But the main player in the space and Dana White’s PPV competitors are going nowhere. Tank Garcia sold 1.9 million. Canelo also has 2 more fights left with PBC.

They rip what they sow. *** them!
Btw, maybe "Fooking Weasel" spent too much time liking negativity on social media regarding DAZN & Hearn?

Few more years and there wont be any boxing on any major broadcast, everyone contributed to the downfall of boxing.

Its not exactly like HBO, because HBO still had their sports division (although smaller) doing everything other than boxing, where this is the elimination of an entire sports division which happens to include boxing, MMA, basketball projects, podcasts, etc.

From what I read, this was going to happen no matter how well boxing did on SHO in the last few years, because Paramount is trying to eliminate everything that doesn't vibe their goal of creating a leading streaming platform. They sold CNet, Simon and Schuster, they tried to sell BET and VH1 earlier this year. They are taking all of the money and pumping it into making more TV projects.

Good article. To me... as a boxing fan watching for 60+ years on TV...
it's like many things these days... gone. I guess all boxing fans have
specific memories from years ago. Something that can't be taken away from us.
