Defo a good fighter and great personality but when I think of Ricky I don't think of his big fights but his WBU reign with Micky Vann as ref.

If Micky Vann sunk in a left hook to Ricky's opponents body I would have half expected it.

Pure nostalgia for me. The WBU era. So many fun fighters fought and held those belts Eamonn Magee, Takaloo, Gary Lockett, Anthony Farnell, Enzo Macc, Jennings. Of course most of those got absolutely blasted when they faced a world class fighter but it was a fun era for me.

It was when I first started watching the sport really. But there was boxing most weeks on sky sports and because these guys weren't amazing they were often in very good 50/50 fights.

Ricky was the only class fighter from that WBU school of terror really but the rest were fun

He probably over achieved relative to his skill, a nice career. I wish he'd fought Witter after the Mayweather loss.

In Britain if you can sell tickets and you can fight a bit you will get opportunities. It isn't really about ability. Someone has to keep the lights on.

So of course you will get the odd lamb to the slaughter that will get blown away in the states. Not that Ricky was one of those. Pac decimating him aside.

                      That’s the thing though.

Guys like “Boring Ass “ Frank Sanchez or Jermell Charlo would never get full crowds loud like that.

Hatton was packing them in. Bums don’t pack stadiums.
