Lacy: "I will accept Hopkins' offer is Taylor doesn't!"

    ----------------
    Lacy would accept Hopkins' offer!
    By Karl Freitag
With handlers of middleweight contender Jermain Taylor balking at Golden Boy Promotions' $1.5 million offer to face Bernard Hopkins, IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy told *********.com that he would be ready to step in. "We're very excited that he would take that fight," said Lacy. "It's just a YES we're looking for, just a three letter word." Lacy (19-0, 15 KOs), who has made two defenses of his IBF 168lb title, continued "The only thing we can do is present the challenge. It's all about him. He's the man. It's all about him taking it. We definitely would love the challenge." Regarding fighting at a catch weight, Lacy said "If he says we can do it at 160, what's wrong with doing at 164?" Lacy's promoter Gary Shaw told ********* that the fight would be easy to make. "We'll fight for 1.5," Shaw said. "We wouldn't need 24 hours [a deadline reportedly given to Taylor], we'd only need 24 minutes."

Lacy's people are ******ed, the 1.5mil offer was to TAYLOR, it was not an open invitation for anybody and everybody to try to pick up.....Lacy is barely worth 1/2 that amount, and at least Taylor has a slim chance of taking Hopkins out, Lacy would get embarassed for 12 straight rounds

I think Lacy should be worth more than Taylor. Both Lacy and Taylor would get beat by Hopkins right now but at least Lacy would make it somewhat exciting with his aggressive style. With Taylor it would be a chess match that Hopkins would win fairly easy in my opinion. Hopkins doesn't move quite as well anymore and if Lacy can keep alot of pressure on him I would give Lacy a better chance at upsetting Hopkins than Taylor.

Lacy would stay on the outside and get smacked with shots by Hopkins all night. While it would be a valiant effort on the side of Lazy he wouldnt be punished.

Taylor is regarded as the man after Hopkins is done, people are already high on him and give him respect. Lacy is good but hasnt earned it yet.

The offer is for Taylor. And if Taylor doesnt accept it... Sturm should be the man. Lacy should not try and enter into the scene. Invitation is not for everybody!

Lacy stands a better chance than Taylor does at beating Hopkins. His tenacious style and punching power would act as an "equalizer" in big fights. I do understand that Lacy was beat by Taylor in the Amateurs, but professional fights are different. Taylor has the tools, but has not shown that he can overcome adversity in the ring. Lacy has been making statements by doing just that.
Regardless of either's resume, neither are ready to fight Hopkins. His ring intelligence is far superior to both fighters. Neither of them are on his level. I would rather like to see Lacy try his hand at dethroning Bernard.

Qualifications at middleweight for Taylor are slim. Beating Joppy should not make you "the man". and so he beat Raul Marquez..big woop. Raul was fighting when Jermaine was hauling ass to the front porch when it got dark.

What has Taylor done to earn his shot at Hopkins? I'm not one of Lacy biggest supporters but he has done more than what Taylor has done.

As far as the fight I think if Eastman can pressure Hopkins and land some good shots Lacy can do the same and even put up a better fight. He won't win but he will put up a good fight against Hopkins.

I don't think Lacy thinks Hopkins is going to take him up on it. Jeff is just letting people know he's up to fighting the best - unlike that other super middleweight champion.

Your viewpoint about Lacy's style is a product of awesome match-making by Lacy's management. Hopkins would NEVER EVER stand in front of lacy the way all of his previous opponents have. The only guy that Lacy has faced who has two feet under him was Vanderpool, and they only took that fight becuase Vandy has NO punch and it was for the vacant IBF title.

Hopkins would embarass lacy, point blank
