Yes, but given his long term objective of fighting Mosley and Mayweather, the Clottey fight would have been a much better fight for him strategically than the Pavlik fight.

    • Good lookin Dave, It is crazy to me that a guy who doesn't carry much body fat can range in weight like that with no ill effects, but he seems to be able to so more power to him. I tell you it is refreshing to see a fighter who wants to fight the best and not just for the big paycheck that certain names may bring.

This has lost me. The only thing I could think of is that people like this are admitting that they want P-Will to show Cotto how it's done.

A lot of people are claiming that PWill can't fight at 147 any more. PWill says he can and that 147 is still his natural fighting weight.

If he wants a megafight at 147, he first needs to prove the doubters wrong by getting in the ring with any top Welterweight who is willing to fight him. Because he hasn't fought at Welterweight for so long, Mosley and Mayweather aren't even being questioned about fighting Williams. He needs to get back into the Welterweight picture in any way he can if he wants to change that.

If he had fought Clottey, and won convincingly, then it would have become far harder for Mosley and Mayweather to say no to a fight with him without looking like chickens. But now he's fighting at 160, if he wins, they can just say he's a Middleweight now, not a Welterweight, and why should they fight Middleweights - and a lot of the boxing public will agree.

If he really wanted a fight with Mayweather or Mosley, then taking the Pavlik fight was a very bad move strategically; whereas fighting Clottey would have been a very good move strategically because he'd have been ranked at Welterweight again, and would have been back in the Welterweight mix. People like Kellerman would have started to ask Floyd and Mosley whether they are willing to fight him.

I don't know what's hard to follow about that?

Styles make fights, and in any case, Williams has improved dramatically since then. And you're making yourself look ridiculous by calling him a chump.

Weak azz logic. That applies to nearly all fighters in all classes. Thats what they do the day b4 the fight. Shrink wrap themselves for the day then eat and drink.

he's a great fighter no doubt, but he never put himself in a position to fight the top of the WW division

his best win was against margarito, not against quintana, so why didn't he focus on clearing the rest of the top 10 WW's? that would definitely get him another crack at the top guys like margo

quintana was a start for him, but he did lose the 1st fight, so he never defended the belt he got from margarito. you can't expect to fight floyd that way. ranked fighter must have drawing power if they plan to call out opponent that bring in the millions. that's how it is, and that's how williams isn't
One of the same posters givin pbf hell for spewing the same BS! Irony or Hypocrisy?
