Comments Thread For: Paulie Malignaggi: "I Never Felt Like Jermell Charlo Committed To Winning The Fight"

Jermell Charlo paid close attention to Canelo Alvarez, even as he moved further and further away from the junior middleweight division. It started off as realistic. Both Charlo and Alvarez once fought at 154 pounds. But while Charlo stuck around, Alvarez (60-

Most people who know boxing knew Canelo was too strong. Charlo did well to survive and land some punches but getting KOd would screw up his career. Now Charlo can fight Tszyu then Crawford.

Yo' Paulie, he was just doing a smarter way of trying thing, isn't that right Roadblock lmao?

Bro, that performance screwed his career worse than a stoppage loss. Caleb Plant came away with his loss to Canelo looking like a warrior who tried to win and it didn’t hurt his brand at all. Charlo stunk the joint out last weekend and truly hurt the sport of boxing with that and then being happy about it

This is an excellent Post IMO! Perfectly sums up the situation...

If I may dovetail off this post: One cannot blame Charlo, for taking a rough fight like this and expecting him to part the sea... If he had gone for it he would have been Ko'ed. He tried, he could not even really set down on his shots because of Canelo's counter punching abilities... Boxers are human... I suspect a lot of people have never experienced being tracked down in a ring by someone with firepower and skill beyond your own. People can all say "punch back!" until they feel such a punch lol...

People were talking big, that Charlo was "coming to fight" but when he felt Canelo's power he had to survive. Don't forget he moved up 14 lbs. with no fights in between to build up. Charlo did fine.

Gentlemen, are we now in the business of excusing non-commital performances that favour survival mode…just because? I don’t want to ever see a lack of heart in a fight, especially one Im paying to see. Charlo should in no way be excused for his performance. I keep hearing the “well he was a wee bit small” excuse. I say no one forced him into this fight. He signed for it, he’s responsible for not even trying to win

Once in a lifetime multimillion dollar paycheck was offered his way, he took it knowing he will have the jump up in weight as a backbone to a poor performance and he got to keep his 154 titles. So this was essentially a cash grab he never fought at any point with any commitment to try and win. Hes fan base wasnt great anyway he will carry on at 154 fighting 3rd tier opposition and make decent paychecks.
