Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson on Tank Davis: Who Am I To Throw an Offer To The Biggest Star in Boxing?

Southpaw ace Shakur Stevenson firmly believes the only way he'll ever get a fight with Gervonta "Tank" Davis is if Davis initiates the interest. Stevenson, the two-division titlist and current lightweight contender from Newark, New Jersey, said in a recent interview that the fight he wants the most is one involving Baltimore's Davis.

Stevenson is not n a position to make David an offer but he is a position to call him out, challenge Tank to make him an offer etc.

No need to talk about this fight at this point. Tank has to accommodate his fellow PBC fighters first like Martin, Isaac Cruz, Delos Santos, and maybe some new PBC guy comes up. There's also Haney and Teo Lopez who are now on free agent status. Which are supposedly relatively easier to make than with a guy still with Top Rank.

I don't know why people keep pretending that these types of fights between competing promoters are a breeze to make. Why not write about a path that leads to these fights happening? Talk to Ellerbe or whoever manages Tank's and see what they think. Talk to both sides, not just one side. Let's hear what they say.

Shakur is speaking facts! The problem is that he needs a BIG fight, to show Tank that it's worth the risk! At this point, Tank could fight Ghost or Pitbull, without a cross-promotion, and make the same money! Hopefully for Shakur, Loma comes back in 2024, or Shakur might have to try to get Teofimo Lopez @ 140!

I saw a lot of this interview. I think he is correct that you can’t just throw an offer at the cash cow and expect him to take it.

That said, where he is the bigger earner, he should understand that he has to make a credible offer or else he will get labeled the same way he is labeling Tank.

Shakur just talk like you always do about beating the sht out of so-and-so. That will bring Davis around. Then we could see a KO.

What’s funny Tank don’t even have a legit belt at lightweight so like Floyd once said they don’t mean **** once you become the man!
