does Canelo really deserve to be on the 168 Mt. Rushmore? Over Andre Ward, who beat better fighters? The reason Canelo went to 168 is because he saw the champs were beatable.

It was also during Canelo’s 168lb unification spell that some boxing media voices were seriously suggesting Canelo might have surpassed Chavez as the greatest ever Mexican fighter. Canelo was in great form but the most impressive thing might have been simply that the relevant sanctioning bodies were co-operative enough to make it happen. Smith, Saunders and Plant would have ranked amongst the 2nd tier of opposition that the great Chavez faced, maybe even 3rd tier. When there’s a constant dearth of big fights, people lose all sense of perspective and go overboard when half decent ones come along.

Canelo can never be considered the greatest Mexican fighter after he dropped his belt rather than face GGG as his mandatory after the Cotto fight.

"Roy Jones, Joe Calzaghe, James Toney and Canelo Alvarez are the Mt. Rushmore of 168lbs"

I think not, my guy! Ward cleared out a division of HOFs..

I’m wondering if he purposely left out Ward in the 168 Mt Rushmore or that was an oversight!

Canelo fans must be praying Callum Smith beats Beterbiev because if not his 168 run really can't be called Mt Rushmore standard even by his biggest fans.

Ward has the worst record of any champion in any era of boxing. He would have never been able of
                 beating Calzaghe!

I completely agree. Chavez was never concerned about matchmaking or timing fights to his advantage. Canelo has been. That’s a big difference. Even Breadman has called Canelo one of the most privileged fighters ever. I think he’s a little inconsistent with his praise and criticism.
