Maybe he didn't pack his own luggage and somebody else snuck the gun into his bag? If he could convince the court that he was an innocent man who got duped by somebody else, they would probably be lenient.
That won't sell. No one is allowed to pack someones suitcase that is going through an airport your suitcase packing is your own responsibility and told not to pack anyone elses items in your own suitcase that are unidentified
