The announcers mentioned that the ref never did establish the low blow zone in relation to the fighter's shorts. The lack of such left Dubois's body shot legitimacy solely up to Parbon, with no reference point to argue.

Is it "on the belt line" or "Below the belt line"

On the belly button is where good referees will put their hand pre-bout and define the "line". If your trunks are high he will put his hands in the middle of the band of your trunks, where your belly button sits. They do it in the pre bout glove touch so both fighters know where is legal and he SHOULD do it in the locker room also.
Dubious hit him on the trunk band...which in almost all fights is deemed legal if you can't see the belly button. especially where the punch is moving upwards, THERE IS NO LOWBLOW INTENT THERE.
Do I think Usyk would have popped up if the ref ruled it a knockdown, yes...but he would have been pretty badly hurt. Did he milk it and the ref gave it to him without question. yes. Did Tyson Fury watch and think..."welp more tinder to the fire and I have the match" ...yup.Last edited by miniq; 08-28-2023, 12:52 PM.

It's not the belt line for the obvious reason that the belt is anywhere from high to low. The ref will point out where on the belt line is a foul if he considers it too high. If he thinks it's OK, he will say everything above the belt line is fair.
If it was the belt line, then everyone would wear it like Jerry Lewis.

If the punches stray a bit low, usually the ref will call out a warning and not break the action, unless someone gets hurt. The ref can also take a point deduction if he feels it's warranted.
I still can't believe how many posters on here think that a low blow is a punch to the cup ONLY, after all the discussions about it in the last 2 days.Last edited by jaded; 08-28-2023, 09:50 PM.

He'll first point at the fighter and then tell him what he did wrong.
A caution he will just speak out during the action doe.
