  • Comments Thread For: Jermell Charlo: "A Win Over Canelo Will Stamp Me As One Of The Greats"

Jermell Charlo stood on the shore as the Canelo Alvarez boat passed him by. Although they both fought in the junior middleweight division at one point, a matchup between them became more and more unlikely as Alvarez began moving up in weight.

Not sure about “one of the greats” but a win over Canelo will surely enhance Charlos legacy significantly, and will definitely tarnish Canelo’s legacy. Would be a terrible look for him to blatantly duck a real challenge in his division to face someone 2 weight divisions below him so that he could lessen the risk, yet still take an L.

No it won't. If you beat Canelo and that's a big if, you've got him at the end of his career not a prime Canelo. Other than that who have you beaten a Tony Harrison, you ducked a young gun in Tszyu.

An all time great is someone like Leonard, Hagler, Duran, Hearns, Ali, Tyson, Marciano among many others fighting the best of their era not ducking and choosing easy opponents. Today's fighters bar 1 or 2 are so protected it's a joke.

One fight WILL NOT stamp this PBC clown as one of the greats.

Only been Champion in ONE division doesn't seem too GREAT.

GTFO here. He’s going up two divisions to fight the undisputed champ who has walked thru everybody at 168 he’s fought thus far (3 champions).

If Charlo pulls this off (big if) this is HUGE for his legacy. Who has Charlo ducked ?? He’s undisputed at 154 and the only reason he isn’t fighting Tszyu is to take on a much stiffer opponent in Alvarez, unless of course you folks think Tszyu beats the 2023 version of Canelo.

If he beats Canelo he’s undisputed in TWO. That hasn’t been done too many times, I hear. and never by a guy skipping a whole division.

Zero chance Charlo hurts Canelo. I say KO/TKO by Canelo

Being THE champion in any one division is more impressive than being an ABC title champion in multiple divisions.

Give the man some respect. Jermell is a unified champion on a dangerous mission with a lot to lose. If Canelo mangles him, he'll just be another clown in the ginger circus. HOF as a victim? Legacy matters.
