Comments Thread For: The Usyk-Dubois Low Blow Debate Continues

As far as I can see from the rule books fo the various organisations, including the Uniform Rules of Boxing from the Association of Boxing Commissions, not one of the sets of rules refers to any line involving the tops of the hips, or the belt. The only set of rules that is specific on what a low blow is the WBC (Section 15. Fouls, rule 1), which defines a low blow as 'below a line around the body going through the navel', consistent with what Russ Anber said at the press conference after the fight.
Assuming all orgs see low blows the same way, then the WBC definition is the go-to. Maybe ask the previous poster who mentioned the line at the top of the hips to refer to the rule book he got it from, then we can see if there is a discrepency that might cause some confusion.Comment

"Top of the hips" and "navel" are the same, as defined by WBA and USA boxing rules in section 40.1: https://www.usaboxing.org/usa-boxing-rulebook, quote:
Here's the video of the referee in Jared Anderson's fight (same day as Usyk vs. Dubois) clearly defining belt line, you can see his hand is clearly at the belly button level.
Here's the video of the impact in Dubois vs Usyk, showing the shorts move after hitting the cup
And another video which can be slowed down to 1/4 speed.
The idea of this controversy was manufactured by an announcer who didn't have a good view and from Frank Warren. There is no controversy. At all.Comment

Whatever Usyk did if the blow was legal is irrelevant. Boxing, where refs and judges are in dire need of seeing eye dogs, must institute replay.
At be end of round 4 and Usyk gets up to start round 5 his navel is not in view. After the fight, you can clearly see it. Something smells.
Look where the ref is when the blow happens. He in the corner and can’t possibly have see the shot.
This belly/ top of hip is BS. The **** was legal and Usyk was hurt and cried to the ref for help.
what happens after that blow is irrelevant. The fight could have ended then with Dubois hand raised. We know Isyk lied about the balls? Why? On the canvas he holding his stomach. Clean blow. Get over it beeches.Comment

In an interview on **********, Dubois trainer, Don Charles said the following:
BT: After the fight Usyk was asked in the ring by Michelle Joy Phelps how he would rate Dubois' renowned punching power, Usyk responded: 'No, only in my balls.' What do you say about his response?
DC: I say two things. First, Usyk is the only man on this earth who’s balls are on his waist. Second, to be honest, I don’t understand what Usyk is talking about because we now know, he has no balls so have could Daniel have hit something Usyk doesn’t have? Wow!Comment

This debate between, 'definitely low-blow' and 'perfect legal shot' can never be settled (so no need to insult someone who holds a different opinion IMO....)
From my point of view, I look at natural reactions.
After the fight Usyk said clearly that he was hit in the balls.
There is a natural reaction for this.
When a man is hit in the balls, the reflex is to hold the hand before the groin, close the legs and hunch forward. Closing down, so to speak. To protect the area.
When you are hit in the gut, the reflex is also to hunch forward at first but then you try to elongate the muscles by leaning backwards.
Try leaning backwards when you're hit in the balls. You'll feel it going against every instinct.
Actually, Chris Algieri said something similar.
Usyk's reaction was the latter.
