The ref definitely was extra, but it wasn't because of race as much as it was because Usyk was the champ and with it comes a set of inherent favoritism and benefit of the doubt that a regular fighter doesn't get.

The shot really could've been called either way, personally it looked legal to me, but in that moment the ref wasn't motivated by race as much as he was motivated by Usyk being champ and the overall atmosphere of the place.

In anycase, the call was the call, and its much better for boxing that Usyk ended up winning since Dubois really disappointed with his lack of heart and if he were to fight Fury everyone knows how that would go. With Usyk there is far more interest and a much better story to sell.

The whole of NATO (which Poland is part of) is using Ukraine as proxy war against Russia, and they are willing to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian. The whole event was highly politicized, of course they wouldn't let the Ukrainian Usyk lose, they gotta keep up the morale of the Ukrainians to keep sending their men to the meat grinder. Dubois needed a knockout win, but who would've thought, even with a legal shot that sent Usyk to the floor writhing in pain, he still had protection from the ref. Just an unexpected angle to the fix.

This is my point. The ref is influenced by the promoters, venue, tv network, crowd, etcc. Boxing is a dirty sport. What's legal at this venue won't be legal at another. Anyone who thinks the ref can't be persuaded or influenced is a ****ing moron who dosen't understand the sport of boxing.
