How about Ray Mancini and Deuk-Doo Kim. I really wished they had let that one go a little bit longer, what a totally bad stoppage.

It was actually just a sarcastic comment on how morally wrong this thread is. People die in boxing, and refs should never be critized for keeping boxers safe.

Ya me too. I thought it was pretty obvious what I thought about this thread, dead men don't fight.

I agree that boxing is a dangerous sport, and that refs are there to make that judgement call that can sometimes make the difference between life and death, and they deserve respect for that, all of them. Still, there are times when refs jump the gun way too early, and the Calzaghe fight was one of them. I don't know if it was because of personal bias or not, but Byron's eyes were clear and he was steady on his feet.....very able to continue. It wasn't a disastrous knockdown such as that suffered by Zab Judah. He just got caught rushing in to finish off what he thought was a muddled opponent, and got set on his tail.

If anything, I think many refs still allow fights to continue much longer than they should, really. The Klitchko/Williams fight is a good example. If I were the ref, I'd have stopped it in 6. The guy was doing nothing but taking a nasty beating from a much larger, stronger guy. Same with Sanders/Klitchko. When one man is getting beaten so badly, there really should be a stoppage...especially in the heavyweight division, where punches landed count for so much more than in any other, and can do more damage. Whether he still has that chance of landing 1 big shot and winning, if they go 2 or 3 rounds taking a nasty ass kicking without being able to land more than a few punches of their own, it should be halted.
