"They stopped it?!!?" fights you would have liked to have seen gone on...

... I just saw two tonight. Okay, they were pretty old, but they were new to me.

First up was Corrie Sanders vs. Michael Sprott. Now, I have no doubt that Sanders would have won, but I was getting into it. Sprott had a high guard, was doing some jiving and Sanders was doing his countering off the ropes. Hey, this is a good fig... what? It's over? Eh? They've only just got started! He got up at nine, ref, you didn't even give it a chance to carry on.

Then I saw Tyson vs. McNeilly. Hey, was this a cracking fight or what? I love Mills Lane saying "knock off that ****" and the commentator claiming he said "stop this nonsense".

        Lennox Lewis vs Vitali Klitschko

The cut was awful, but Vitali held his own, winning the majority of rounds prior to the stoppage.

Hector Camacho Jr vs Jesse James Leija

Camacho suffered a cut over his eye and clearly didn't want to fight anymore,as the momentum shifted to the underdog Leija.Unfortunatly Camacho Jr found a way out, sensing the beatdown he would have taken, had he gone on to fight the gamed Leija.

Oh Yeah they totally stopped Vitali way early!!!! I would have stopped it the round after it opened up. That was sick. Especially when the cut man put the swab IN the gaping hole above his EYE!!!!

I too would have liked to see how this would have turned out but damn that fight went on way longer than it could have if lets say, Margaret Goodman were the ring doctor that night.

The most recent example I can think of was the Lacy Vs. Rubin Williams fight. Williams was fighting well against Lacy most of the fight. He was countering very effectively and was winning when the fight was taking place in the center of the ring. He had prooven himself capable of withstanding Lacy's barrages on numerous occasions in the fight. When they stopped the fight in the 7th round it was completely unjustified because Williams was still counterpunching when the stoppage came.

I was thinking that if Williams withstood that barrage by Lacy in the 7th. Lacy would be so tired that Williams could take the offensive again and win the second part of the round and some of the later rounds. What ever happened to standing 8 counts. It seems like premature stoppages are on the rise today when the proper call would be to give the fighter an 8 count.

The stoppage Ruiz got VS Oquendo was totally insane. That is probably the worst stoppage I have ever seen.

Actually I cant say I was upset when they stopped the Oquendo Ruiz fight because that fight is probably the most boring fight I have ever seen.

Wow! Half an hour and no one has mentioned Zab Judah yet!

IMO that fight stoppage was fair, but I understand the people who think it was stopped early. The reason I believe it wasn't stopped early is because when you fall twice the ref has to stop it. Also, if you saw a fighter talking to you and his legs were moving on there own, wouldn't you think something bad just happened to this guy? While I would have made the same call, I do agree that he looked lucid enough and able to fight after he regained his balance from the second fall.

That was a mercy stoppage. For the crowd. I was there that night. And I couldn't have been happier. Plus, they spent the whole fight clinching so when Ruiz finally landed a punch the ref woke up, didn't know what was going on and figured for Ruiz to be throwing a punch meant the wrestling match had to be over.
