You’re right in that it is a silly fight, and unnecessary. Canelo needs to fight Benavidez in 2024. The only other fighter Canelo would get a pass for is if he fights Munguia and I don’t see that happening in 2024 due to promotional/network ties.

With that said, the fight can easily go from “silly” to legendary, ATG-making for Crawford is he wins. That intrigue being there would interest a lot of fans of the sport. Especially those who just hate Canelo, even if they aren’t necessarily Crawford fans.

But yeah, Benavidez is with PBC, so is Canelo. There’s really no excuse to not fight him in 2024. Crawford would be a weird selection.

It's delusional to think PPVs are still being bought in massive numbers. 100K itself is hard to achieve in this day and age of internet mass cheating, let alone 400,000 to 700,000. It would be great if athletes had more autonomy in their choices and couldn’t just be bought out like this. This was a fight a lot of people were waiting for. But in modern sports money talks. On one hand it might seem unethical. But on the other it gives athletes more autonomy. And honestly these sponsorships bring in more money and fewer risks compared to deals with clothing brands.
