TRUST ME sparring sessions are not as controlled as you think. a lot of these cats throw 70-100 punches a round in a sparring session. it is controlled to a point on where a fighter is getting seriously hurt.
why are u trying to convince this guy, he never even set foot on the ring in the first place?

But to think theyd take a risk like that is crazy.
Pacman has some of the most intense sparring. Porter is in there for himself as much as he is in there to give Pacman a good look. Porter has a lot to learn from Pac and sparring is his opportunity. No he is not going to lay down and have Pacquiao beat him up. That is crazy thinking on your part. Porter is going to give it his all, that is what he is paid for. Plus Roach gives a $1000 bonus to whomever can knock Pacquiao down. He spared with Holloway a jr. Middleweight as well and he said he and the rest of the sparring group wanted that 1000. Nobody has ever gotten it yet. 1000 a good incentive in addition to making a name by being the guy who knocked the best # for # fighter down during sparing. If that ever came in the news that porter knocked Pac down, his value just went up more than what he will ever get paid sparring with Pac. You are talking nonsense and anyone that knows boxing knows porter and any sparring partner goes and gives his all. Pac aint like Floyd or DLH who fires sparring partners who beat them up. Pac welcomes a beat down with a 1k bonus if they finish him of.

Well you guys believe what you want and ill do the same. I wont ever believe Roach and Pac would invite full blast sparring seesions and risk him geting injured before the biggest payday of his career and the hardest fight of his career. Its not okay to play pickup basketball but its ok let him fight 154lber full blast in a uncontrolled enviroment. It makes no sense. All this bull about Pac not being like DLH and PBf, that **** means nothing.

Of course they're not going to risk Pac getting hurt, but Porter or anyother sparring partner wouldn't just lay down to get beat up, especially someone with a caliber and potential like Porter. They're in there in their best interest as well as Manny's. They have to look good and they have to give Manny a real competition and as real as a fight can be, not just a punching bag.

Sparring sessions can be brutal. This is no playground. Take the Philly gym wars, for example. Fighters are highly competitive individuals, and for sure Porter will be trying to make his mark. Like Alibata said, Porter is using this opportunity to his advantage. Likewise, there's been a lot of talk recently of Omar Henry. One of the main talking points in these conversations has been regarding the exposure Henry would gain from taking up the opportunity of sparring with Pacquiao. These guys are not going over there to be shamed on 24/7.

You cannot sincerely believe these guys are up to anything shady by allowing Pacquiao to beat them up just to look good in front of the media. Two well-regarded, up-and-coming Rican prospects allowing themselves to get beat up by a Pinoy who's about to face PR's best fighter?

              That's just silly, man.

What you have to understand is, in the gyms, boxers take all aspects of the sparring very seriously. Having a guy spout off about how he did this or that to you in the gym is an open invitation to go to war every time from then on out that we spar.

Yes, let's do a half-hearted effort in sparring sessions against an opponent like Cotto. That'll be beneficial! Yeah!

ill try to dumb this down as hard as i can...

pac goes all out with a 154 lber = he risks getting injured but also improves his conditioning for the fight.

pac plays basketball = he risks getting injured but also improves his fadeaway jumper.

Yeah, put yourself in Porters shoes. He is an undefeated fighter with a bright future. When and if he becomes a great fighter he don't want someone saying, "yeah Porter is great but Manny whooped that ass in sparring long ago." That is not what a proud undefeated fighter does. He goes in there to learn and see what he's got against the best and if he gets whooped it is not because he let it happen. At this point I think Porter has pride in his ability, his name, and where he can take his name.
