Comments Thread For: Canelo Alvarez: Charlo Is Bigger Than Me; Everybody's Bigger Than Me ... But I'm [A Badass]

NEW YORK - Jermell Charlo was noticeably taller than Canelo Alvarez as they stood face-to-face on a stage Tuesday at Palladium Times Square. If you didn't know any better, their faceoff would've indicated that Alvarez is the ambitious boxer who is jumping up in

Let’s not be gullible and act like height translates to size. Charlo made 154 for his last fight. Can Canelo make 154? The guy literally said this week that he wouldn’t even entertain a Crawford fight at a pound below 168 because he couldn’t make the weight. Aside from that, let’s not ignore the weight bullying Canelo did during his 155 days. They guy fought Amir khan for the middleweight title for fks sake.

Height is different to size. By this logic Fundora is bigger than George Foreman. Haney would be bigger than Qawi.

Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) knocked out hard-hitting Sergey Kovalev in his lone light heavyweight fight
        Bivol says privyet.

Height usually determines your weight class. No one ever mentions the fact that Canelo gives up a size advantage every fight.

Canelo loves to play the deceiving small-man card against cherrypicked inactive tall fighters from lower weight classes like Charlos but we know that gingerboy is a thick-bulky guy who probably weighs around 190 lbs. At jr mw and mw, he was a legit weight bully.

Charlos are just business fights for Canelo. Bivol/Beterbiev, Benavidez/Andrade and Morrell jr would be solid opponents for Canelo.

He is fighting much bigger dossers since 2017. Even his smallest opponents GGGeezer and Ryder towered him.

Easily one of the greatest p4p fighters of all time. I hope he ends Charlos, Benavidez and Crawford. We just need to bring Slicknelo back.

Having more height and reach is an advantage just like having extra weight is.

But they are only advantages if the fighter knows how to use them. Bivol is a good example of knowing how to use his physical attributes.

I think Jermell has shown he can use his reach to his advantage. He has an awesome Jab.

On the flip side, the issue with being smaller in stature and reach is that you have no choice but to do something extra to get in and land. You don't have the luxury of pressing the action from the outside. You have to either consistently come forward or learn how to counter while being pushed back. This takes more energy but can be very effective if you have a high IQ, agility, power, and twitch reflexes like tank, Crawford, Canelo and Pac. However if the bigger man also has those abilities, like Bivol, then crap, this isn't gonna be good for ya.

Does Jermell have a good IQ, agility, power, and twitch reflexes to complete with Canelo? That's the real question.
