That's typically what happens when you dodge a mandatory for a voluntary. You exchanged your belt for the payday.

Yesterday it was " Josh " so unset that not everyone who watch's boxing loves him and talks well about him Now this guy is angry bc he has to hand over some medical records and abide by some rules...... No wonder boxing is not what it used to be.... Imagine Duran or Lenard or Little Red or Frazier or any fighter of the past fighters or champions acting this way during there tours ? Yet these guy these sell important over paid under acheieving so called Male Fighters act up like children or worst..........they can not even keep it to themselves and roll with a punch much less learn to deal with it.... remember when a professional fighter carried himself in in certain way...... almost commanded respect ?Comment

It's all politics.
Nothing to do with not fighting in 15 months and lining up his next fight in a different division.Comment

Can't hold everyone up because he wants a huge payday, it was fight Canelo get the big payday or defend your status at 154 for smaller paydays, he can't have both.Comment

WBC does their 99 year lease, "fight whomever" ... and the WBA doesn't care who's champ, they just make more belts. By now everyone on the planet knows that promoters, managers, networks and sanctioning bodies work together to steal, I mean earn, money from the fighters. So what's up with the WBO?
I'm not a conspiracy guy but why would the WBO force a mandatory when they can get a percentage of the Canelo cash and Charlo vs Crawford/Tim at 154? It can't be about about mandatory because nobody enforces rules anymore. Mandatory isn't actually mandatory, it's more like a future promise to keep everyone in the deposit line. Collecting millions for doing nothing is a business and taking Charlo's belt doesn't seem to be good business. What am I missing?Comment

He's been in a weak division for so long he thought it will never end. Tzsyu comes along and his injury suddenly takes a year to heal, then takes an escape route for a money fight. He wants his cake and eat it. These Charlos are the biggest jokes in boxing.Comment

You know - - good for Charlo in making a fight for the big bucks. I'm not sure how much he'll get but it's reported that Alvarez will make north of $40M. I would assume that Charlo would receive at least $20M, if not more. That's a big payday for any boxer - - really setting you up for a care free lifetime but we all know boxers are not the smartest with their money. Same can be said for many other athletes. It's all roses for Charlo. If he gets beat (and I think he'll get knocked out) he can always fall back on "it was too big of a weight jump" and go back to 154 where there are one or two other big money fights waiting for him. Maybe he's using the WBO issue as a motivator for himself. No matter what - - his financial future, if not his legacy, should be secure.Last edited by Rockenator; 08-16-2023, 11:12 AM.Comment
