GLENDALE, Arizona - Emanuel Navarrete never gave much thought to a fight versus Shakur Stevenson or really anyone else at lightweight. The idea of such a challenge is fine with the reigning WBO junior lightweight titlist, who was previously more focused on validating his status as a three-division title claimant.

Make it happen so we can stop hearing Shakur cry that no one wants to fight him.

There is no one else with Top Rank for Navarette anyways. Unless they wait for Shakurs DAD Robeisy Ramirez to move up to 130.

You don't hear anyone saying that Shakur has not approached them for a fight, they stay quiet. Even this guy is saying down the road.

Good fight if it ever happens.

Jamaine Ortiz already been calling out Shakur. When is that going to happen. Same weight class, same promoter.

My boy Navarette will fight anyone. He will clean out 130 then surely fight Shakur.

Shakur wins a comfortably boring decision

Navarette has been on Shakur's mind for quite some time. Maybe no one (Arum) told Him???

Shakur Stevenson wants Emanuel Navarrete: “He doesn’t strike me as a ducker like other fighters”
Shakur Stevenson would be ready to welcome Emanuel Navarrete at 130.

Shakur Stevenson Says Emanuel Navarrete “Priced Himself Out”
              06/09/2022 - By Tim Compton

Shakur Stevenson says Emanuel Navarrete priced himself out for a fight against him on September 23rd. WBC/WBO super featherweight champion Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) says Navarrete ultimately didn’t want the fight.

On Wednesday, ESPN’s Salvado Sanchez reported the news of the Stevenson vs. Navarrete negotiations. However, on Thursday, he revealed that the talks had collapsed and Navarrete had already decided on fighting another opponent in a voluntary defense of his WBO 126-lb strap.

Instead of Navarrete fighting Shakur and potentially losing, he’s going to be defending his WBO featherweight title against #9 Eduardo Baez (21-2-2, 7 KOs) on August 20th. Baez isn’t exactly a household name, but he’s perfect for Navarrete.

It’s not surprising that the former two-division world champion Navarrete (35-1, 29 KOs) didn’t take the match with Shakur because he hasn’t been fighting cutting-edge opposition since his two contests with Isaac Dogboe three years ago.

Since those two fights, Navarrete has been taking it easy, facing fighters like Uriel Lopez, Joet Gonzalez, Christopher Diaz, and Francisco Horta. In other words, easy money fights for Navarrete against opposition that wasn’t a threat to beating him...

“Just know I was with it ” said Shakur Stevenson on Twitter about his negotiations with Emanuel Navarrete falling apart. “He cap. He not really with it. Priced himself out. I’m down but will y’all give me my credit for that? Easy money Pay me my money and I’m ready to go.. ”

One of these days, Navarrete will move up to 130 after he can no longer make weight at 126, but by then, Shakur will likely have already moved up to 135 to go after the big money fights against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, Devin Haney, and Ryan Garcia.

That’ll be convenient for Navarrete because he doesn’t match up well at all with Stevenson on paper. Navarrete would be a weaker version of Jeremiah Nakathilia and would be too easy for Stevenson.

Shakur Stevenson vs Emanuel Navarrete negotiations fall apart, fight no longer in the works
Shakur Stevenson and Emanuel Navarrete had discussions, but a deal was not reached for a 130 lb title fight.

UPDATE: The talks have reportedly already fallen apart, with Navarrete now expected to face Eduardo Baez in August. — Scott

Shakur Stevenson won’t be chasing further unification quite yet, but that delay is for a good cause. ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez revealed today that he’s in talks to defend his super featherweight belts against WBO featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete, “tentatively in August or September.”

Not that clashes with fellow titlists Joe Cordina and the winner of Roger Gutierrez vs. Hector Luis Garcia would be unwelcome, but there’s a whole lot to like about this one.

The clash of styles alone is ultra-tantalizing, putting the technical perfection of Stevenson (18-0, 9 KO) against the power, volume, aggression, and unorthodox offense of Navarrete (35-1, 29 KO). Size doesn’t figure to be an issue, either, as Navarrete is the same height as Stevenson and boasts an additional four inches of reach.

It’ll also be Navarrete’s first fight with a recognized elite since his duology with Isaac Dogboe. While the likes of Ruben Villa, Christopher Diaz, and Joet Gonzalez were solid tests, this is the sort of matchup we’ve been waiting years for Navarrete to enter.

My only personal request is that Navarrete return to 126 if he comes up short. There are some tasty matchups with Leigh Wood, Leo Santa Cruz, Mauricio Lara, and Mark Magsayo that I don’t want him to miss out on.

Navarrete surprised me Saturday and didn't know he has a 72 inch reach.
