It's not happening but Boots would test Spence at 147. At 154 Spence beats him.

The overall point being, the people now screaming for Bud to fight Ennis, like, right now, are totally ignoring the rematch clause, which means Boots needs another opponent anyway. Me saying that Boots hasn't been in with anyone half as good as Spence isn't to say that Boots won't compete, and possibly beat Spence. There are other fights for Boots where he could build his name recognition and make a potential Bud fight bigger, say, by beating Thurman, or Stanionis. Villa was a decent move up, but no one knows Villa. And as you laid out, Spence worked his way to Brook.
I don't even get the point of the debate, apart from people who don't like Bud think Boots has a chance to beat him and they want Bud to lose. Boots certainly has a chance, but odds are Bud catches him at some point, same thing I said about Bud Spence.
Boots will get his belt shots within the next year or so. In the meantime he should be calling out ex belt holders to build his resume.

How many times did Spence get hit by Garcia? By Ugas? By Brook?
How many times did Crawford get hit by Postol? By Porter?
It’s incredible that Boots pitches outright shut outs and scores spectacular KO’s and yet “he still has work to do” but the other guys are super elites while still getting hit.Last edited by factsarenice; 08-04-2023, 07:18 PM.

Hey, thanks for the breakdown. I was going to look up Spence's route to Brook, you nailed it.

Once Boots grabs the vacant IBF title when Crawford vacates, things should change for him. But he has probably lost the change to fight Bud or Spence

Answer: Errol Spence was made to fight and beat, every mandatory laid out by the IBF, ordered to fight Ponomarev then Bundu to get a mandatory fight with Brooks.
Answer:The WBA 147lb mandatory is Staniobnis, he is also became the mandatory for the winner of Spence Crawford. The WBC ordered Mandatory Keith Thurman to be the mandatory for their 147lb belt . Bozy Ennis chose NOT to go after Terrance Crawford's WBO belt and instead chose to become Errol Spence mandatory for his 147lb IBF belt. Errol Spence and Terrance Crawford fought July 29th and both are at least 5 months from a contracted rematch for all the belts at 147lbs or move up to rematch at 154lbs....the later seemingly more likely.
I hope this answers some of your questions and if I can help you with anything else let me know.
Your welcome!
Yours is a compelling response and I do appreciate it even if I disagree somewhat with it.
I can only hazard a guess as to why Bozy chose not to push for a fight with Spence - perhaps he thought Boots wasn’t ready. Perhaps monetary deal wasn’t going to be worth the risk. I don’t know.
My response to all the casual fans AND specifically my example about Spence is pretty simple. They don’t seem to have an issue with Avanesyan or Kavaliauskas or Khan or Brook getting a shot at Bud but they not only have an issue with Boots getting a shot, they call him a hype job and continue to make it a personal attack on the guy.
Spence cleared his path to earn a shot at Brook. Thanks for breaking that out.

Boots fans can talk all they want but Ennis needs to fight his way into contention just like Spence and Crawford did. There are great fights for Boots but he has to be willing to fight Vergil Ortiz and Stanionis and a bunch of others.
I have not seen anything that points to Boots Ortiz or Stanionis. If anything, the very casuals that I engage with here promised us that Villa would “expose” Boots.
Also, to be clear, and again this is something these casuals can’t seem to grasp - I like Crawford and like most, I thought his fight with Spence was 50/50. Crawford does not need to prove anything. He’s an incredibly talented guy. I just want to see the right guys fighting each other
