    What happened to Lara-Garcia?

I remember back in like May it was announced for August 5th, but there’s been zero promotion or mention, so it’s obviously not happening on that date.

Was is pushed back or postponed and I missed the article?

I was going to post the same thread. I'm also wondering what happened.

Seems like it's still on as of 21 Jul 23 but I could only find the one source. PBC is doing a shyt job promoting this if the fight is in fact still happening.

BOXSCORE | NEW YORK (July 21, 2023) Erislandy Lara will protect his WBA Middleweight title [154-160 pounds] against Danny Garcia at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on August 5.

The highly anticipated fight has Lara expected to open as the favorite when WynnBET opens its betting market.

The fight between Lara and Garcia has been in the cards for some time but Michael Zerafa stood in the way. The 31-year-old Australian was the mandatory challenger to Lara's title but he agreed to step aside after he was offered an undercard slot allowing for the highly anticipated Lara-Garcia bout.

The WBA has already stipulated that the winner must face Zerafa by December or face being stripped of the title.

      About Erislandy Lara

Lara who is now a grand 40 years old and was elevated as champion after previous holder Gennadiy Golovkin relinquished his title after he refused to defend his title against the Cuban star.

Lara has a reputation for exciting bouts as his split-decision defeat to Jarrett Hurd was judged as ESPN's 2018 Fight of the Year while his draw with Brian Castano in 2019 was also considered one of the best fights of the year.

Lara’s 29 wins include 17 knockouts. which includes a controversial decision loss to Paul Williams, a split decision defeat to Canelo Alvarez, and a solid victory over Austin Trout.
      About Danny Garcia

As for his opponent, American Danny Garcia, is a veteran of the ring having risen to prominence with a surprise four-round victory over Amir Khan in 2012. Garcia then followed that up with an impressive win over Lucas Matthysse the following year and since then has become a multiple world championship in two weight classes, including the unified WBA (Super), WBC, Ring magazine, and lineal light welterweight titles between 2012 and 2015, and the WBC welterweight title from 2016 to 2017.

Born in Philadelphia to a Puerto Rican family, Garcia's father was a boxer who introduced him to the sport at an early age. He was the US Under-19 amateur champion back in 2005 and the national champion in 2006 before going full-time pro. In 2013 he was voted Philadelphia’s Pro Athlete of the Year.

Garcia has 21 knockouts in his 37 wins. His fight history includes beating good fighters like Erik Morales, Zab Judah and Lamont Peterson while also suffering close points defeats to Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter.

      About the Fight

Lara has competed four times since the Castano draw but all of those were wins against domestic-level competition with the Cuban winning three of those inside the distance.

As for Garcia, things have gone a little quiet recently as his last fight was an impressive junior middleweight majority decision win over Jose Benavidez Jr in July 2022 – and that was his first fight since a 2020 split-decision loss to Errol Spence Jr.

But fight observers are wondering if Garcia has what it takes to become a three-divisional champion.
Add in the fact he has only fought once above the welterweight limit, questions abound if the 35-year-old still has what it takes to take down the Cuban.

Regardless, fight experts are licking their lips at the impending bout between the two.

      Prediction

The majority public opinion seems to edge towards the American but the heavier punching Lara might be too tall of a task for Garcia. Edge Lara.

It’s going to be overshadowed by the Jake Paul nonsense most likely.
