  • Comments Thread For: WBO Votes Down Arnold Barboza To Be Named Mandatory; Teofimo Lopez Permitted To Make Voluntary

Teofimo Lopez is free to defend his newly claimed championship versus the challenger of his choosing. The World Boxing Organization (WBO) confirmed that the two-division and reigning lineal/WBO junior welterweight champion is in the voluntary stage of his title reign. The ruling was made as the sanctioning body rejected a formal request by unbeaten contender Arnold Barboza Jr. to be named mandatory challenger.

I don't understand what's going on with Barboza because Top Rank just cannot secure him a marquee fight. Honestly, Barboza should look to leave Top Rank unless he's been refusing fights from them, which I'm not aware of.

Seems Barboza isn't with Top Rank rn, this probably has attributed to the WBO decision.

Nobody shows Barboza any love. The man's been the dark horse of the division for years.

I don't see anything suggesting Top Rank dropped Barboza, appears Barboza is testing the market after negotiations with Top Rank failed, likely over money.

Simply put they parted ways after his contract ended but it was a decision mutually made by both parties

Top Rank misled this man. He should've fought Regis when the fight was there for him, but he ducked like his stablemate Ramirez.

Message to Tank: we already know Haney is fighting Regis Progais in October, so if you're not going to fight Shakur Stevenson, then this is THE FIGHT you need to make next! Pitbull Cruz ain't getting it done, especially not for $75! MAN UP!
